Enterprise modifications? (spoilers)

I watched this again today, and noticed some modifications to the Enterprise at the very end of the movie, when they begin the 5-year mission.

1. The impulse engines have been changed. Originally they resembled the movie Refit engines. At the end of the movie, it's pretty much one solid bar, and it's much wider than before.

2. The saucer phaser banks have been changed. Originally they were bumps which protruded like the movie Refit version. At the end, the phaser banks were recessed into the saucer.

Did anyone else notice any changes?

I liked the new warp core, although I'm not exactly clear what Kirk was "adjusting" with all the kicking.

Side firing torpedo tubes.

Still no bowling alley.

:)

I would like to know where the new multi level set is located on the ship. It is the set where Kirk is standing (on a crossway bridge) when he calls Scotty on Earth to give him the coordinates to go check out. It is seen several times in the movie. At one point when Kirk is talking to Scotty I could swear I saw a glass oval ceiling.

Seems to go right down through the middle of the saucer section. The dome at the top is the dome above and behind the bridge and that structure extends all the way down to the bottom.

Which, also, is sort of revealing in the whole "size of the Enterprise" debate; when we get to look down into the plaza, Kirk and Scotty are able to see at least five decks down towards the bottom. They are, at that moment, nowhere near the top of it, so the saucer section, which means the saucer has between six and ten decks from the upper down to the bottom level.

On this Enterprise, the bridge is on deck two or three.

Another modification I didn't catch before last night.

The post-pwnage refit does indeed have upgraded impulse engines and warp nacelles. It ALSO has upgrade phaser banks; the new banks replace the smaller ball turrets on the saucer section and are both flatter and wider than the original. They are visually reminisicent of the forward phaser banks on the USS Vengeance, mounted next to the hull next to the main deflector (just above the two battlepod things). We didn't get a look at the torpedo launcher in these shots, but I'd be willing to bet that she got upgraded to a double barrel this time.

The warp nacelles are different. The depressions to the top front are a bit different and there's light coming from them. The fins split now into four parts instead of three.

I'm sure it's related to the whatever-the-heck-it-is that Spock was fondling in The Wrath of Khan. ;)

The Plaza is a nice touch. I can almost see a computer core or something dropped into the top for some purpose. With a greater impuse deck--as Ent B, this should allow more nimble sublight pursuit of Orions.
