Enterprise in the real world

Chi'pok

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
So during the course of my workday at the Library of Congress, I was working on a collection held by the Maine Historical Society. It is a summons for the sailor Frederick Reed (probably to appear in a naval court) because he shirked his duty and neglected his service; his ship: the schooner Enterprise (active 1799-1811); John Hall, shipmaster. The date of the summons is 1803.

So apparently Mr. Reed didn't want to be on the Enterprise; apparently his (possible relative) Malcolm did... Just thought you all would be interested.

Perhaps he got grabbed by time traveling Klingons?

Klingons? Time travel?

Ridiculous. Unless they followed someone else through a temporal vortex, they could time travel to save themselves.

Hmm. Firstly, I doubt if any of Reed's ancestors would shirk his duty; secondly, they were all in the British Navy. Unless he had a lazy cousin that was shipped out to the colonies. :D

I'm going to beam this over to the ENT forum. ;)

First, how cool is it that you work at the Library of Congress.

The date of the summons is 1803.
Twenty years before, everyone would still have been British.

Perhaps Mr. Reed carried the aquaphobia gene.

IMHO, there was much The Great Bird of the Galaxy kept to himself as re: the creation of his "world," but I don't think the choice of the name of the primary ship was random. :-)
