Enterprise has Stood the Test of Time

Where were you when Enterprise first aired, and how has your life been forever changed by it?
I was watching it in my living room, and already profoundly bored.

I suppose you could say my life has been forever changed because I've said negative things about the show on this forum that *some* people apparently can't forgive.

Where was I when it first aired?
I was at work. Fortunately I had a cassette recorder so I could catch up.
You only taped the audio portion?

I think Enterprise stands up quite well as a series I used to tape this show on my VCR like Jinx mentioned when the show was shown on tv every week. my local CBS station showed the series at different times on the weekends when it originally aired on tv.I still enjoy watching the series on dvd. I really enjoy rewatching some of the episodes when I'm not busy.

I've just begun to watch it again after realizing it's the only modern series that really captures the spirit of Star Trek.

I still hate the ship though. It makes no sense at all for it to be that sleek. It should be a simple submarine with a saucer attached similar to the Kelvin.

I actually think the NX01 Enterprise was one of the best ship designs. I was quite fond of the proto-Constitution class look. I also thought the interior sets were pretty nice, too.

The thing I disliked the most were the jumpsuit uniforms. It looked like Jiffy Lube in space.

It was pretty much the last thing I used my VCR to record off the TV. And the first when I got a DVD recorder. Now I'm mostly enjoying it all over again, seeing it on Blu ray.

Has it stood the test of time? Production wise, it's the best looking. However that's taken for granted. Do the characters come up in conversation in a workplace environment? Does anything they've ever said or done get quoted. No, not really. But to be honest, none of the Star Treks after Next Gen have really entered popular culture either. And the Original still basically overshadows them all.

Coming at the end of almost two solid decades of media presence, it couldn't really have ended any other way. It'll start happening to what few behemoth franchises have been around since the 90s, before too long. A show will get taken down, with such an extensive back catalogue to cycle through and meet the demand for it to be still be available somewhere.

If Enterprise were a brand new show hitting TV now, after such a long time without new weekly Star Trek to enjoy, it'd be a different story for sure. Both sufficiently familiar and yet different to what JJ Abrams has done.

Even if the seasons basically went in the same directions but cut down, and remodelled after shorter runs - between 13-18 weeks ... You cut out the padding and get through the character/story arcs from A to B to C, leaving out the episodes that feel like recycled ideas left over from VOY/DS9/TNG.

You'd be surprised at how much Voyager had become a part of local pop culture in my country. It's almost on par with TNG around here, and Croatia, for some reason, always had a soft spot for Star Trek.

That's weird. How does that manifest? Do people quote from VOY?
Nah, you won't hear anyone quoting any Trek show around here, but everyone knows about the female Captain and her stranded crew (not to mention 7of9), people will be coming to masquerade parties in VOY style uniforms (carnival season is a big cultural thing in my part of the country), satirical cartoons often reference Voyager...

Here's an example (this show was insanely popular some time ago)

(crew members were all government ministers at the time, and the "Captain" was prime minister, currently on trial for corruption)

Things I dislike:
- Temporal Cold War arc
- NX class Akiraprise
- Trip's death
Totally agree on all of that.

Fixes:
- Romulan War arc
(S1-S2 hints dropped about piracy, S3 piracy revealed to be Romulans, S4 Romulan War start, S5 Romulan War middle, S6 Romulan War end, S7 creation of coalition alliance leading to Federation charter being signed in series finale)
(If show cancelled and no S5+, squeeze Romulan War into S4 that takes place over few years)
- Daedalus class Enterprise
- Trip lives
The Romulan arc sounds interesting. Would loved the ship to be Daedalus-Class.

It definitely should have been Daedalus. But I assume they needed to retain the basic look to sell the show.
