Enterprise E should have been a Venture upgraded Galaxy Class

When in the world was the Venture Class seen on DS9?
The Venture was seen in Way of the Warrior docked with Deep Space Nine. The only differences were the addition of phaser humps (held over from TNGAGT) on the nacelles. It also was the first Galaxy Class ship supposed to have the name on the underside as well as the top.

The Venture was later converted to CGI and seen in the battle fleets in several episodes during the Dominion War. The additions WERE NOT included on the new model and it was meant to be a standard Galaxy Class ship. This was said by the artist in the Companion I believe.

I think it would have been idiotic to replace a Galaxy-class Enterprise with...a Galaxy-class Enterprise. It was one thing in Star Trek IV because at that point, the only Enterprise WAS the original. So it was a big deal. But now that we've had a B, a C, and a D and ALL of them have been different ships from the A, it'd feel out of place to put just another Galaxy for the Ent-E.

They were going to get the Excelsior, there's even a line in the movie where Scotty goes "ah, that bucket of bolts!!" but when we see the ship, it's another Refit Constitution class, and everyone is relieved.

They already had other ships, like the Excelsior, and Reliant, etc etc. but the writers knew that WE the audience wanted to see the same ship again, even if really it was a different ship. Kudos to them for that. This is why the TOS movies were relative successes, because the writers knew what the audience wanted.

Well, I, as an audience member, very much likes the Ent-E. At the point of first seeing the Ent-E in First Contact, we'd had seven years of the Galaxy-class D, we'd seen the Odyssey destroyed, and it was nice to see a new flagship.

Of course, that wouldn't be a problem if they didn't blow the damn thing up in the first place.

I'll bet Starfleet doesn't even do warranties or insurance anymore. They end up replacing EVERYTHING about every seven years or so.

Hmm, I wonder if it has anything to do with Pon Farr.

If they wanted to do the whole "Enterprise crashes down on planet" scene because it was so "gee whiz kewl and shit!" they could still do it. But have the ending show that the Saucer is salvageable, and add a new stardrive to it. Problem Solved.

And oh yeah, DON'T KILL KIRK!!!

There were three or four separate images, I believe. For those who may care, the photoshopped images of the Enterprise-D in First Contact were, I believe, created by Flux Capacitor for a class project either last year or the year before. I know he would want people to acknowledge that, so let's acknowledge.... that.

I'm 95% sure it was him.

The only reason I point it out is because I'm sure a lot of hard work went in to his creating those images and it always gets my goat when people don't credit an artist, whether maliciously so or not. Just trying to keep the info on the level! :)

Which is fair enough and it is far better than what I can do in photoshop, but it still looks a bit shite.

Reset button: letting you have your cake and eat it too since "Cause and Effect."

I wouldn't really call it a reset button in this case. It's not like they are erasing the destruction of the Enterprise, more like getting a chance to refit the Galaxy Class but keep the basic model design.

Please, explain Star Trek V then.

It may not have had the audience that ST IV had, but it still made a mild profit, so people did in fact still see it.

I'm not debating that... I just disagree with your assertion that the humor of TFF is where it's problems lie.

The interaction between Kirk, Spock and McCoy is arguably the highlight of the film. Granted, the stupid stuff like Scotty banging his head, etc. could be done without, but there are problems far worse in TFF than the humor.
