Enterprise D Virtual Tour

10-Forward is not on deck 2, as the video depicts.

Which is why the lounge was called "Two-Forward", is behind the large windows on the lip of the large "island" the bridge sits on that makes up the bulk of the main shuttlebay and -incidentally- looks nothing like Ten-Forward.

^Well, it does resemble 10 Forward in layout, but the direction of the curve on the windows is reversed.

Incidentally, this would have been the Lounge Picard was in in the very first shot in "Encounter at Farpoint".

In the bridge head, next to the toilet there were (of course) the three sea shells.
I've seen this comment on facebook. What's so special about 3 sea shells?

It's an in-joke to some weird and unexplained thing in another film:

Though I'd watch the whole review just so you know to avoid the film.

Don't bother with the review and watch the film. It's a great movie!

Oh, I agree. The D was too big for Ten Forward to be the only bar on the ship. It had seating for what...30 people?

And I knew there were other lounges/bars around - it's just funny that those were pretty much the only "extra" rooms featured in the video.

Probably the easiest to model. May have even used existing meshes for the furniture.

It was amazing.

The nit thats that stands out most to me was the diameter of the upper decks. the arc of those corridors was consistent with the decks where the saucer is widest. it was especially problematic on decks 1 & 2.

I appreciate the demo though. I just pretended it was deck 6.

I think it's cool to have stairs. Certainly portions of the ship were less utilitarian than others - we saw interior corridors with decorations that looked like hotel lobbies. I could definitely see stairs/ramps on the Galaxy-class.

There certainly are a lot of lounges too - I like that that was included in this design. I would've loved to see that one overlooking the main shuttlebay on the show.

[
Having lounges in more than one place makes sense on a ship that big. Keeping some close to operational areas cuts down on the "commute" between the main Residential/Recreational areas and work stations. "Two Forward" would be ideal for Bridge crew to take lunch, for example, while being less than a minute or two away from their duty stations should an emergency arise. The lounges in the shuttlebay would be for flight crews and shuttle maintenance crews when not working, and for any transient passengers/shuttlecrews that might be on board.\

All those lounges are just space. For the E-D, in peacetime, they were lounges. But maybe for Galaxy Class ships in deep space, they were reconfigured to be science labs, or for diplomatic ships, set up as luxury suites, or during the Dominion War, as troop transport quarters.

Yeah, the realization of the Main Shuttlebay was incredible. But I can't quite say I see it being such an utter hub of activity with shuttles always coming and going. I mean, how often do they really even use the shuttles? Seeing the Runabout in it was cool.

It's possible that in addition to shuttle craft, and runabouts, the main shuttle bay is able to take on small freighters, as well. Who is to say that some floors aren't retractable to make room.

Not to mention, during war time, the Galaxies could also be converted to basically troop transport and aircraft carriers. There is a lot of shuttle bay space for runabouts reconfigured as fighter craft, as missions call for. Not all battles need to be fought by capital ships.

I think I could spend quite a few hours roaming this model. Something like this could push me to purchase a VR headset.

Thhis sort of thing would be great and inspire me to get VR...imagine seeing inside Rama, or Niven's RIngworld...take a ride on a transparent General Products hull!

I really can't see how such a claim can hold water - this is ART, regardless of what inspired it. Did CBS really think that the video contained footage from the TV show?

It might be just automatic copyright flag as well. Either way, the creator should dispute that claim.

It did, however, contain dialogue excerpts from characters while on the Bridge. That's certainly a justified copyright claim. And possibly the ship's hum FX sound could be held as well (does somebody know about that?).

Stairs make good, practical sense and most behind-the-scenes materials on starships include them.

However, cramped ladderways make better drama on screen

The stairs bothered me, because in some instances they seem to be in places where there is no ramp or elevator. Or, maybe I just didn't see them. For example, the lounge overlooking the main Shuttlebay seemed to be accessible only by the stairs.

What about access for non-bipedal species or disabled humanoids?

Also, wouldn't stairs at least have railings? If someone was on the steps when the ship hit a temporal anomaly, that person would be thrown 50 meters into the opposite wall! ;)

It's the future, man. There's no OSHA to enforce those kind of standards in the future (or a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away for that matter):

Especially that plasma stream in "Eye of the Beholder". If that safety door is down while some kind of repair is in process and the stream is active, all you have to do is trip and fall in to it. Even if you miss the stream, who knows how far that hole goes down.
