I must say that I like the design of the helm / nav station. The curved front, rather than straight, the fact that the middle support is underneath rather than exposed at the front....and that shade of red with the surface gloss looks great, in my opinion.

The way the JJ-movies filmed the bridge, made it seem to me to be more oblong from left to right, rather than round.

The set was indeed oblong and not round, intended to highlight widescreen composition the same way Meyer did by moving the TUC lifts out to the sides. It's definitely not my favorite bridge, but it does have a clear and intentional design ethos.

While the Helm/Tac console seems to be wider than TOS, it it doesn't seem to be as big, front to back.

It looks great, and I believe Roddenberry would be all for it. And honestly, how TOS would it have to be to make Trek fundamentalists content? Reading lamp viewers and a printer spitting out wrinkled paper? Putting that paper on metal clipboards? Because that is the bridge we saw on this ship during the Pike era, not the bridge of Kirk's day.

You are missing the whole point. Those of us who do not like where they went with it do not want an exact version of the sets or tech. But we also don't want something so far removed that it no longer has any resemblance of what came before....

The problem with the approach of It's okay if it's different provided it's my idea of different is that no matter where your particular taste draws the line at how different it ought to be, someone will come along and declare your vision departs too much from the original, that you hate Star Trek, don't care about canon, etc.

Back in 1979, many fans, myself included, couldn't look at the refit design of the ship without wondering why it had to be refit at all. I don't know if I ever really embraced the film Enterprise. Now that design is at least as iconic as the tv version. Time and taste, both are pretty fluid.

Do you know how ridiculous this sounds? Are you seriously telling us that bridge has no resemblance to the TOS one? NONE?

It resembles the TOS bridge about as much as a Ford pickup resembles a Chevy pickup....(actually even less so)

And fortunately, that is not what you got. Instead they designed a remarkably faithful, updated and enhanced version of the bridge from the original series.

OK, so then...

I think this is exactly what you want. And if not, please indicate HOW the Discovery Enterprise set isn't faithful to the original. Back up your argument, instead of just complaining you didn't like it. Because it sure as sh!t looked as spot on close to the TOS bridge as I've seen since TOS.
