Entering into Heaven

You've just died and you're now standing at the gates of Heaven and St Peter (or whoever it's supposed to be) is stood there and asks you a question, he asks you "do you believe that you deserve to enter Heaven?".

What is your answer? Do you believe you deserve to enter Heaven? do you say yes or no?

Keep in mind you don't know what will happen if you say yes, but you don't deserve to enter. Perhaps you say no you don't deserve to enter but being honest he might let you in or alternatively if you say no he might send you for a vacation in hell for a few years.

What's your answer?

Per the Bible, God is at the Gate and He would not see me but see Christ and I would be let in.

If my belief in Jesus Christ remains in my heart I will enter the Kingdom of God. Since Christ knows my heart He wouldn't ask me the question.

Pretty sure if everything is true, and assuming that I am at the gates of Heaven therefore everything up to this point is true, then I should be "in" no problem because I've done everything I should.

You only get in if you Believe.

Are you a murderous, bigoted, scumbag who raped children? Yep, but I believed in God and accepted Jesus as his son and my Savior. You're in!

Are you a virtuous, kind, giving person who loved everyone, was charitable, and never harmed a fly? Yes, but I'm an atheist. To HELL WITH YOU!

Why is it that St. Peter, the guy who was Jesus' best friend, who Jesus called "the rock" that was the foundation of the church that has endured more than 2,000 years, is relegated to basically being the afterlife version of a Wal-Mart greeter?

That always seemed strange to me.

And now we see Trekker's true intentions in starting this thread.

I will bribe Saint Peter with some porn pictures, sneak my way into Heaven and work to upturn the Kingdom of God into a Republic of Man.

DAMMIT...sorry Trekker. I picked a bad day to quit drinking.

I personally don't dwell on thoughts about the afterlife. Granted, I would take comfort in the knowledge that my consciousness would continue to exist after the inevitable death of this body (because as a sentient being I am inherently terrified of the idea of non-existence). In a literal sense, I don't believe for a second that I will someday physically stand before the "pearly gates" of a extraterrestrial utopia where heavenly bodies will judge my life on Earth and send me to either a blissful eternity or a fiery hell.

What I do believe is that modern (and past) Christians have serious logical stumbling blocks that they seem to ignore completely. I was raised to believe in these Jesus who is an "abstraction" that I had to "invite into my heart" by physically praying for this. Christians fail to understand that this turns Christ into a mere "pledge of allegiance," bound language and words-- making for a rather weak, all knowing, all powerful deity. If the Spirit of Jesus Christ walked the Earth, died for the sins of mankind and returned to heaven to watch over us until the end of all things-- I have trouble believing this God would be overly concerned with syntax, formalities and the confines of the language we use as humans to perceive the world; by all logic, a person should be completely capable of accepting Jesus Christ, even if the words were never spoken-- even if the person could not linguistically identify the presence! I've met "agnostics," friends from Japan, people at the international organization where I work, professors, humanists, who have a genuinely good spirit about them-- who's right is it as a Christian to say that spirit isn'tJesus Christ embodied?

This viewpoint often estranges me from practicing Christians.

I don't believe in ANY afterlife or ANY religion, but I still started this thread because it's just a hypothetical bit of fun.
