ENTER! TV & Media Avatar Contest: Re-cast!

Hi folks,

this time it's about characters from TV shows are a movie series that were recast, for whatever reason. It can't be the same character in a remake or reboot, is has to be an actual follow-up. It also needs to be the actually same character, not a new character replacing the old (as, say, Bruce Boxleitner replaced Michael O'Hare as the lead in "Babylon 5", but they played different characters).

Let's exclude James Bond, since that'd be lazy and obvious.

Use the second (or later, if it's been recast more than once) actor in the role. I'll allow SF&F for this.

I'll go first: Gerard Christopher replacing John Haymes Newton as the titular character on the "Superboy" TV series:

I think Ford was supposed to be the same Ryan as Baldwin, but wasn't Affleck, like Pine, a reboot?

Anyway here's mine, Dirk Benedict as the second Templeton Peck

Darn. I guess I'll have to come up with something else.

^Dirk Benedict always gets my vote, especially since the story behind that so-called "recast" is a hoot. Stephen J. Cannell wrote Face as "Starbuck on the ground," so he wrote it for Dirk all along. The studio said no, they didn't want him, because he was too associated with BSG. So Stephen and Frank Lupo cast the worst fit they could find (sorry, Tim Dunnigan: too young, too tall, too skinny, too inexperienced). The studio saw the pilot and said, "Yeah, cast whoever you want. Just replace that guy!"

If Bond's out I'm guessing Timelords are too? ;)

Yeah, sorry. Dunno why I didn't think of DW when writing the opening post. But you do have a good alternative.

And since we're talking about things I should have put in the opening post, but forgot to:

Those recasts where they re-shot a TV episode or a movie are not what I intended, so I won't allow those (sorry, Michael J. Fox and Kate Mulgrew). Guess it was obvious to many, since none of the entries so far went there, but I still wanted to make that clear.

@antichristhill: Why not just use Ford's Jack Ryan? That definitely was the same Jack Ryan as Baldwin's, since James Earl Jones stayed as Admiral Greer.

OK, I do that. Thanks! :bolian:

Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes

Don replaced Terrence Howard in the Iron Man films & Marvel Cinematic Universe

I would have thought this one would have been done by now.

The second Derwood... er, Darrin, on Bewitched, Dick Sargent:
