Hi, folks! Sorry for the long delay since the last contest - I honestly hadn't known I'd won, and just recently found out (:alienblush:).

The theme for this new contest is Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

Entries are to be from TV shows/movies that take place on a ranch. Normal contest rules apply. No avatars from science fiction, fantasy, or comics, please.

Entries will be accepted until Tuesday, January 20. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! :)

Do we seriously have to keep going with the contest, now that the first entry already is Bonanza?

Edit: ok, here is my entry even though Bonanza will win in a landslide here. ;)

I checked the availability of potential entries before deciding on the theme. I also went through 8 pages of avatar contest threads in this forum, to see what's been done before. I'd wanted something related to westerns, but then realized that doing it this way wouldn't limit it to just the period shows and movies. There are lots of possibilities out there.

Does it take place on a ranch or a farm? They're not the same.

Well, he raises sheep. Does that make it a ranch?

Not really a fan of westerns (unless they're set in space! ;)), so this is pretty much the only one I could think of. If it doesn't qualify, let me know.

According to Wikipedia it's a farm, not a ranch.

This may seem ungodly picky, but I really have to insist on ranches, otherwise it would let in stuff like Green Acres and a whole bunch of shows that have absolutely nothing to do with ranching.

It's an adorable picture, but I'm going to have to disqualify it.

Part of it takes place at a ranch, so it's fine.

These don't necessarily have to be westerns. But they do have to take place at least partially on a ranch. For example, most people don't think of Dallas as being a western, but Southfork is definitely a ranch.

Scott Bakula as Paul Blake, the Arm of the Armadillos, in Necessary Roughness

A star athlete in high school, Blake gave up football to run the family ranch when his father died. When an old coach has to put together a rag tag team of losers from the student body, he brings Blake back to the game as a college freshman.

    Paul Blake, rancher.

    Yeah.

    :p

The A-Team in "When you coming back Range Rider" which I'm pretty sure featured a ranch, certainly the badguy is refered to as a rancher so I hope this counts :)

On that point, then, Brokeback Mountain is sheep camps, not a ranch.

it doesn't have to be cows...
Though, I haven't actually seen Brokeback Mountain, so if the movie doesn't fit the definition, I have to think about something else then.

    ranch

(rănch)n.1. An extensive farm, especially in the western United States, on which large herds of cattle, sheep, or horses are raised.
    2. A large farm on which a particular crop or kind of animal is raised: a mink ranch.
    3. A house in which the owner of an extensive farm lives.

    intr.v. ranched, ranch·ing, ranch·es

^ OK, they were tending sheep grazing public land, whereas a ranch is usually considered as raising stock on private land. Likewise, I had an idea that involved a cattle drive, open range land, so I didn't think it fit.
