OK, that is a good one!

WTF is it? All I can see is a little bluish smudge on a black square.

(Mind you, this monitor's always been a bit iffy on images with a lot of dark in them)

It's the famous close-up of Riker's rank pips (three of them) from TNG's "Cause and Effect," and the underlying answer to the mystery of the recurring three's, the secret of the code Data sent to himself back into the causality loop!

Perhaps you need to increase the brightness on your monitor. The image in my avatar looks just as it should (it comes straight from a TrekCore screencap, which I only cropped and resized). And your Thor avatar does look like it's been overbrightened.

First of all, I had trouble seeing it when I first saw it. I squinted.

On the TrekCore page, there is something called context. You can tell that the episode is familiar and you get it right away.

I couldn't even tell it was someone's collar and beard right away.

Either way, it seems to be a problem with certain peoples' computers and not the image itself since some of us can see it perfectly fine.
