ENTER! Misc. Av. Contest: Your Country's Wonders of the World

I like the picture of the motorwagon but would argue that Gutenberg's was the greater wonder (just to be helpful :) )

For me, it's certainly the greater wonder, as I'm a writer without a driver's licence. The thing is, they both changed the world in a massive way, book-printing allowing knowledge to spread and help people like Martin Luther to, again, change the world, while the automobile changed the travelling of about anybody. Hm.

In the end, I'll go with Gutenberg's book-printing. Because it's closer to me (I may ride a bus each day, but I also read in a book each day), and it causes less road accidents.

One of Canada's great wonders - the aurora borealis (not just Canada's I know, but this photo was taken in Saskatchewan :techman:)

Nice one. But you're right, not just Canada's. What about the CN Tower? Too obvious?! Well, you could always try to get a real photo of Bigfoot, now, THAT would certainly win this contest.

Mmmhhh... wonders... in Italy...? :shifty:

What to choose! What to choose!

I'll go for one of my favourite places: Venezia. :)

I’m reposting mine because the HostPic.org site just went down, and I don’t know when (if ever) it’ll be back up.

I'll throw it open to the court, can I claim the aurora as seen over Saskatchewan as a Canadian wonder?

Yeah, sure.

I was debating using the view of Mt. Whitney (highest point in the contiguous US at 14,505ft/4,421m) and Badwater Basin in Death Valley (lowest point in North America at -282ft/-86m) from Dante's View in California. It's just that Mt. Whitney doesn't look as jagged and impressive from that direction and distance, and it was hard to find a decent shot not shrouded in clouds. Badwater to the base of Mt. Whitney is the site of the dangerous 135 mile/217k Badwater Ultramarathon, btw.

So instead, I went with a collection of some of the record breaking and distinctive trees of California:

We seem to be missing entries from a couple of our regulars, so I'm going to extend the time for entries another day and put up the voting thread on Tuesday sometime after midnight PST in case they still want to enter.
