ENTER! Misc Av. Contest: Celebrating the Moon

grissom_av.png

Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, Apollo 1
I am sorry, but the OP specified astronauts who have been to the Moon. Sadly, Grissom did not make it.
Timewalker, why do you hate America? And the space program?

Damn it, disqualified on a technicality
Just a note: Before I chose this theme, I did extensive checking to make sure a wide variety of authentic photos of astronauts and the Moon itself were available. I considered allowing all astronauts, but the idea was to celebrate the Moon itself and/or those astronauts who had actually set foot there. There are lots of wonderful photos and images available, so I encourage you to try again - I'm sure there's some there you'll like as possible entries. :)

For the record, my favorite astronaut is Chris Hadfield, but he's not eligible for this contest since he never went to the Moon. ;)

Fair enough. I'll try again:

Frank Borman, Apollo 8.
Around the Moon is not on the Moon, but as you've chosen a slightly wider interpretation of the theme that's not unfair plus I see my OP was a bit imprecise on this point, I'll amend the OP to allow astronauts who have orbited the Moon.

EDIT: Seems I can't edit my own OP. Okay, it's said here, then: Setting foot on, or orbiting, the Moon is allowed.

Just thought I'd bump this for the weekend. We've only got about a half dozen entries so far. Surely the Moon deserves more. :mallory:

Indeed it does, thank you! :) I should really get my own entry posted, but I've got three possibles and can't make up my mind yet.

I've been killing time at home, making avs. I made some moon ones this week, if anyone wants to use them for the contest:

They're lovely. :)

However, they're animated, so they don't fall into the criteria of a "natural photo."

They're lovely, and I especially like the second one, but please note one of the criteria I set out in the OP:

Avatars showing the Moon and/or astronauts who have been to the Moon are what we're looking for this time. Please, nothing from science fiction movies, TV shows (exception: news footage or documentaries), comics, fiction book covers, or photoshopped.
I realize that animation isn't the same thing, but it is a form of photo manipulation and I must therefore disallow these for this particular contest.

So is resizing images, for that matter. You're not seriously disallowing any entry that has been resized are you?!?

Please note that I edited the post you quoted.

No, I am not disallowing resized entries, because that's a standard part of the rules for all the avatar contests on this site.

I'm looking for still photos, not animated ones, but will allow authentic news footage.

Very nice. :) I enjoy watching them.

Here's my entry:

They weren't animated in the magazine, though, were they?

I know people are fond of animated avatars. But animation is not what I was looking for here, and I apologize for not making it clearer. If I could have edited the OP once I realized there was confusion about that, I would have.

Locutus, is it possible for you to isolate one particular image from that animation and use it as your entry?

The entries so far:

Ok, going simple with a picture of a lunar ecclipse.

Here's my entry, a picture of the moon I took myself using an old point-and-shoot.

There's still nearly 6 hours to enter, folks.
