Theme:

I made this one a couple of weeks ago - I was looking through the screenstills on TrekCore, trying to come up with some other avatars, when I came upon the stills from the
Garak/Dukat/Kira scene in Civil Defense... I realized that they're perfect to make avatars from.

OMG.jpg

Dukat has some really priceless expressions in that scene  Kira makes some good WTF faces as well. Would be perfect to use on livejournal.

Episode: She-Hulk on the promenade!

Theme. I just love how he manages to pull off an expression that almost looks friendly, good-humoured and kind, yet is so very, very creepy at the same time. It just doesn't work, which is of course the point (in context: this is one of his more overt sexual-harassment-of-Kira moments, so it was definitely intended to be off-putting).

As for Random Theme, I'm torn. I have a Babylon Five avatar that's perfect, but I use Bab-5 an awful lot, so should I try something different?

Opinions, if any?

The second. I really like the second. An interesting shot of Odo; he looks very much the detective but in an unconventional way, and it demonstrates his vulnerability as well as his rigid lawman persona. :) It's subtle and complex; it catches my interest.

Edit: It occurs to me that I really should explain the 'compassion' avatar in case it isn't recognised. It's Bashir in "The Quickening"; finding out that he can't fix everything. (Even if it all does work out in the end. ...Sort of.)

Hey...the Theme does have to be a screenshot, right? A drawing of Dukat wouldn't be acceptable, would it?

Here are my other entries...

Oh, and DN--yeah, that's definitely "sexual harassment face"! It's all in the eyes...you can tell they are devoid of the kind of love one gives to an equal.

With a risk of having my geek card revoked, what is picture no.2 from? The girl (?) looks like an elf, but beyond that, I'm lost. :alienblush:

Episode:

avatar_manalone1.jpg

Random theme:

There are so many opportunities here, the only difficulty I'm having is what to choose. Two things that first came to my mind:

avatar_BSGFlesh_.jpg

From BSG season 1 episode "Flesh and Bone": Starbuck ends up seeing the imprisoned Cylon agent she's interrogated and tortured as a person with a soul, rather than a machine. This is the moment near the end of the episode when a simple gesture shows the spiritual connection they have formed, as he's about to be airlocked by president Roslin.
(Of course, in later seasons, all kinds of weird and creepy stuff happens with those two, but this is irrelevant here, this is just about the powerful moment in this episode.)

or

Not sure which one of those two looks better.
In case there's someone who doesn't recognize this, it's one of the most iconic and memorable moments of big screen SF - Roy Batty saving Deckard at the end of Blade Runner.

Actually, they're both boys. :) It's from an Australian webcomic called "Terinu" that I discovered (and grew quite fond of in a low-key way). Terinu is the "elf" with the horns and pointed ears.

I was wondering whether to try something different, such as this, or to go with my staple of Bab-5 (and a scene I literally burst into tears at when I first saw it :alienblush:)

I'd go with this one. Even without the context, it communicates the theme in a very simple but effective manner. :)

Damn hippies! You can't tell who's a man and who's a woman anymore!

I like your B5 avatars... But the drawing is really nice-looking, even though I have no idea what it's about. (Could you provide a bit of a context?)

That's definitely a very creepy expression. It's from A Time to Stand, right? Notice that humorous and likable-Dukat moments were almost all in seasons 2-4, starting with The Maquis, which was really the turnaround as his character was becoming more interesting and ambiguous than a one-dimensional (and back then, rather pedestrian) villain/antagonist that he'd been up to that point. Then in the middle of season 5, By Inferno's Light marked another turnaround as he became a full-fledged villain, but on a grand, epic scale, which he was throughout the Dominion occupation arc. Humor was gone, while all the creepiness of his character came through, but there was still complex and ultimately tragic villain (Sacrifice of Angels). After that it was hit and miss, though I really liked Waltz (apart from the 'true evil' line which was really on the nose) and Wrongs Darker.... I never understood the argument that they had to make Dukat a "Satan-worshipper" to show people that he was evil :cardie: which is stupid and makes no sense, and besides, I think that between Cardassians, Occupation of Bajor episodes (all 3), By Inferno's Light, Ties of Blood and Water, and the Dominion occupation arc, they had already shown that to the full extent.

Anyway:

.

Well, Terinu's people are marsupial, so the males and females don't look too different anyway (flat chests with teats in pouches and all). And all quite slim and agile.

Sure. :) Well, first of all (though this doesn't answer your question yet, I'll give some background) the web comic strikes me as very similar to "Babylon Five" in many ways, only (a lot) simpler, which is partly why it came to mind when I cast around for possible alternatives to Londo/G'kar. Lots of themes and plot points just connect. I sort of think of it as "Babylon Five for kids", which is partly why I'm fond of it in a light-hearted way. It's about a teenage boy named Terinu (there's a surprise). He and the human boy in the picture with him are, basically, slaves on a pirate ship (definitely of the realistic kind, not the jolly yo-ho-ho kind). Basically, they're one another's sole source of comfort, so they're sort of "soul mates". The picture comes at a point where Terinu has just (accidentally) killed a guy who was trying to abduct him (long story) and is pretty much in shock. His friend is comforting him.

Basically, I just really like these scenes because it seems quite rare (at least in my personal experience) for two teenage boys to be shown having such a tender, loving non-sexual relationship. I was always a rather touchy-feely person, considerably more so than most adolescent boys, and seeing as it isn't really the done thing for boys to form such demonstrative bonds (at least not in this way) I just found it quite touching. There's a pic I also considered showing the human boy essentially, well, cuddling with the traumatized Terinu on his bed- again, in a clearly non-sexual way.

Hmmm, I'll choose between the two avatars closer to the deadline....

Ooooooooooh.

First off, I love that episode because I think Mr. Alaimo really did his research when it comes to how cult leaders actually have comported themselves, and I found his performance extremely chilling, very convincing. I don't care what ANYBODY says or thinks. It was THAT good.

And I also have to say it. I dunno why--but even though the armor always looked really good, there's something about this simple outfit that treats Dukat right in ALL the right ways. (And then I feel like I have to wash my brain out for reacting that way to such a creepy character!)

Yep. :) I love the scenes with Dukat in that episode because his clear twisted enjoyment of the situation- "I'm back in power again! On my station! In my office! With power over these Bajoran women!"- just shows through so clearly, yet I still get the impression he doesn't realize how strongly he's revealing his true intentions. It was far better disguised during his earlier interactions with Kira (though always lurking there). Here he almost looks kind and good-humoured (as though he were flirting in the usual way) but the gloating "I'm master again!" attitude just corrupts it- he can't help but show it- and the real Dukat shines through. His predatory sexuality really makes itself known, and it's just generally a really effective, disturbing scene. Kira's disgust and horror are probably stronger here than she's ever shown- not because she didn't know what sort of a man Dukat was, but because now his nature is just breaking free of the artificial charm and kindness he wraps it in- and which he's still, I think, trying to show. He's so much more dangerous, because his predatory impulses are finally supported by his social position again, and he's starting to flaunt.

Well, that's why I selected this image, anyway.

Marie--since you're OK with a drawing...I have two I'd like to enter. This is actually of my alternate version of Dukat...a man who lived a different life and made different choices. Both drawings show expressions you'd never see the canon Dukat wearing (at least, not MEANING it). What do you guys like better?

This one is a simpler drawing--in this one, AU Dukat shows an emotion you would NEVER see from the canon one.

2n6u4vs.jpg

This drawing is one I did with AU Dukat and his daughter, who bears his last name. THIS expression is one we have seen a few times in genuine fashion--but very, very rarely. The first shows AU Dukat and Ziyal together...the second just AU Dukat.

What do you guys like best, of the Dukat who could have been but in our universe never was?
