Previously, on the Enterprise avatar contest:

Good job. We had a clear winner in the episode contest until you swooped in at the last minute and tied it up again. :p

As I just said, thanks to a certain Johnny-come-lately (;)) we have yet another tie in the Episode contest. If this keeps up, maybe we should go back to just one vote per entry! :shifty:

Congrats to HopefulRomantic and star (who totally stole my idea :klingon:)!

We also had three runners-up for the Episode contest. Enjoy your well-deserved puppy kisses, Admiral Shran, JiNX-01, and Praetor_Shinzon!

Fortunately, the Theme contest was much more decisive, as HopefulRomantic ran away with this one. :techman:

While JiNX was our runner-up with her amusing take on the first thought that comes to everyone's mind when the timeline starts acting up.

Our next episode is Two Days and Two Nights with gender-shifting aliens and those glorious Starfleet blues.

I have agreed to run the contest whilst my very-busy, but awesome ko-kai, HR, has chosen our theme:

Theme for "Two Days and Two Nights"... how about something like Romance of the Week... referring to one of our main characters sharing smoochies (maybe more) with a guest character in an episode.

Since there is some disparity regarding the board rules over avatar size, we will be keeping to the old standard of 140x140, 140 kbs.

Have at it, folks!

I just got confirmation from T'Bonz that the board avatar dimensions are now 150x150p max. If your user CP says 140, just ignore it, because you have the Official Word. :techman:

Coolness!

Okay, folks... up to 150x150 (140 kbs) is acceptable for entry in the contest. :D

Sorry for the double-post, but I can no longer edit my last one.

Two things: First, I see as of today that the avatar size is now 150x150, 140kbs. So disregard my ETA in the last post.

Second: MORE ENTRIES PLEASE!!

Would be nice if at least two more folks play so we can have two votes per contest instead of one. :D :D :D

I think I'm gonna wait another day. (Wherever did 0do go?) Then I'll post the voting thread.

Looks like Praetor_Shinzon is the only regular who hasn't checked in yet. Shame! :p
i find it hard to keep up with you guys, in terms of quality that is. i look at avatars made by Skywalker, star or HopefulRomantic and think, man i can't even come close to that.

I'm in the same boat, P_S. I've resigned myself to accept the inevitable loss. Maybe someday we can have a "worst avatar ever" contest.

heh, that would be fun. :)

I used to feel the same way. I just started experimenting in Photoshop until I found out how to make my avs look better. Basically all I do is adjust the color levels and balance, sometimes adjust the brightness and contrast, and then sharpen the heck out of the image after I've shrunk it down to avatar size.

I've seen the subject of an entry win as much as artistry. There have been some hilarious humor entries, which is not my forte at all. I like the variety and creativity we have here -- from everyone. :)

BTW, I first learned how to make avatars in Paint, and moved up to creaky old Photoshop Elements 1.0, which is what I still use. (I wouldn't know what to do with a full Photoshop program.) As Solo says, there's an amazing amount you can do to spruce up a picture by adjusting brightness, contrast, color saturation, and cropping artfully. It was a huge deal for me when I figured out how to make animated gifs, ha.

So rock on, folks! I really enjoy seeing what you all unveil each week in homage to our Enterprise. We have a great group here. :techman:

i know all the little tricks and tools to use, and i also started out making avatars with Paint (man, now i just feel old). i will pass up this contest, but i do like the Enterprise avatar group. all the avatar contests are fun but as far as Enterprise goes...man, i've got to step up my game. :)

Every so often, I go on a photoshop tutorial binge. I, too, started out with Paint, then moved onto PS. A great community on LiveJournal to check out is Icon Tutorial. All of their posts are public, so you don't have to be a member to read them. I've learned a lot from that site alone--but there are so many awesome tutorial sites for any photo-manipulation program you're using.

And of course, the real secret is to play in the program (whatever program you're using)--lots. There are times when I just open it up and fiddle with images just to see what I can do with different filters. I always use layers. I think that's one of the greatest tools for creating vivid images from dark screencaps. ;)

I'm going to leave this thread open until tomorrow night, just in case. :D
