ENT Relaunch--what next?

Does anyone know if the Romulan War will cover the entire war, or just be the first in a series? I would prefer a trilogy at least, or maybe one book that covers each year of the war.

Originally announced as a trilogy, I believe we are getting the whole war at once - in one huge, chunky, trade-sized PB.

Which probably says something about the sales of the ENT relaunch. :(

^ Maybe, maybe not. The next New Frontier novel is also supposed to be coming out as a trade paperback. Apparently it's the new 'in' thing and all the cool publishing firms are doing it. (Also, something about a higher profit margin of trades, since bookstores charge you through the nose for all that needless blank space.)

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Perhaps. I was more concerned about the three volumes being pared down to one. Unless we're looking at a 1200 page TPB. :techman:

Then I'm getting one hell of a deal.

IIRC it never really was announced as a trilogy, that was just an idea that was floating around, but when the project got the green light it was announced as one TPB from the start.

We don't know that. First, as Defcon said, it was never announced as a trilogy, just mooted as possibly being one. Second, when the TPB was announced at last year's Shore Leave, Margaret was deliberately ambiguous about whether it encompassed the entire war or was simply the first volume.

Which probably says something about the sales of the ENT relaunch. :(

The only thing this says about sales is that bookstores today like TPBs better than MMPBs. It's got nothing to do with the success or failure of the ENT novels themselves, and it doesn't represent a cutback in the amount of material, just a change in the way it's released. Remember, you can fit more content into a TPB than an MMPB.

And again, the trilogy idea was never a firm thing, just early speculation. This isn't a cutback any more than it was when the initial, very tentative plan to do a 12-volume A Time To... series was streamlined to 9 volumes.

What it says was that I wasn't vague enough, when talking to TrekMovie.

The Enterprise books sell very well, thank you.

I made the decision to move the story to trade, since it is such an important story.

The Romulan War is not the entire war.

Margaret

Margaret thanks for the Romulan War book update.I can't wait to see where the story starts up again after that terrific cliff hanger ending in Kobayashi Maru.:bolian::vulcan:

Mangels and Martin did a fantastic job with the first batch though; its dissapointing to hear that.

I also find this thread funny; Andy jumping in on the Mike comment. It was indeed probably harmless; but it sure did make me laugh out loud.

I'll buy both of your guys' stuff, together or seperate, doesn't matter.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my concerns Ms. Clark.

My apologies. I was just curious as to why Mr. Martin was working this one (Romulan War) alone. I thought you guys were a fantastic team over the years and enjoyed much of your work.

Hope to see you writing in the Trek universe again. Hope that Mr. Martin is able to carry on the quality of the Enterprise re-launch without you.

Thanks, and glad you've enjoyed our books in the past.

Whether Mike and I work together again is for the future to tell. At this time, to my knowledge, Mike is only contracted for The Romulan War.

I also hope to write again in the Star Trek universe, either for the novels, or for comics. That may or may not be with Mike, and may or may not include more Enterprise tales. I've been working in Star Trek for a long time, and hope to do so for a long time to come.

And I am in negotiations to write something that will be of interest to Trek fans, though not directly Trek. Expect an announcement this Spring.
