Ent is better than disco in every way

I grew up on tos reruns and tng. Then I took a 20 year break on trek. This year I binged enterprise and discovery, first time viewing for both.
To be clear, i don't hate discovery, i enjoy the special effects and the action, I also fast forward 50% of every single episode.

ENT episodes like Home, Carbon Creek, Dear doctor, and Cogenitor are very light on special effects and they contain very little action, yet they are thought provoking. There is no equivalent for Discovery.

Archer also gets a bad wrap, imagine being the first human to make multiple first contacts with various species and truly alien cultures. ENT was outgunned, at a huge disadvantage technology wise, and completely alone far from home.

For the most part the enterprise crew were incredibly professional ambassadors for humanity.

There is something special, something profound about being the first to explore and say hello to the Galaxy. When they first arrived on Risa and Archer finds sol in the sea of stars- that was poetic.

I have a reason for doing this. I believe shows like discovery are missing some strands of classic trek DNA - I express my opinion because I want trek to change. Not by a lot mind you, the current shows have a good base, I think they. An do better however. A large % of the fandom agrees with me on this.

If you don't speak, nothing will change. It makes zero sense to not compare and contrast. I know there are many they prefer disco over ENT. But surely paramount can find a way to make all of us happy. They could make a new show that more closely follows the old formula.

It's interesting that those throngs of imaginary fans didn't back you up in the other forum, so you brought it here. Preferences are one thing, but it's not necessary to go on a fruitless crusade.

I have some good news. I agree with you, and though I'm not technically among the "Star Trek" writing staff, my Mafia connections do give me some sway.

The next season of "Discovery" is going to get back that "classic Trek DNA."
  • That silly violin music in the opening credits will be replaced by classic, "Star Trek" country music.
  • The U.S.S. Discovery now has a Detontamination Chamber. And Saru is going first.
  • Tilly's shirt and bra will abruptly slide off as she slides down a tube during an important mission.
  • The Borg, Ferengi, and solid holograms will be encountered by the Discovery (in flashbacks still set in the 22nd Century)
  • The Vulcans will now shout angrily, until Michael shuts them down with rants about her own culture's superiority.
  • Michael Burnham will now wear a catsuit (patterned like 1970s wallpaper) and high heels.
  • Michael's boyfriend Book reveals that she got him pregnant.
  • A episode's main plot will involve aliens angry at the Discivery because Book's cat used their sacred flowerbed as a litter-box. Captain Burnham will then declare, "If anything happens to Book's Queen, I'll be the one fertilizing their sacred roses!" (Alternatively, "I'll be leaving an Amber Heard on their flower bed!")
  • Burnham and the ship's doctor will agree to let an entire race of intelligent humanoids die out, when they could easily be saved, because a cooler race might evolve in their place someday.
  • Saru's alien makeup is being altered to include a buttcrack on his forehead
  • All of the Human characters in the regular cast are now Caucasian, except for one token Black man and one Asian woman, both of whom will have the lowest ranks and the least screentime.
  • All openly gay characters are being shoved back into the closet. (You'll still get to hear Jett Reno and Paul Stamets snark from behind the supply closet door, though.)
  • Commander Will Riker will gain weight and play a holonovel of the Discovery's exploits.

I highly appreciate "Carbon Creek"; it is my ENT "comfort food" episode.

So this crap isn't really gaining any traction over here either?

Funny that.

I also fast forward 50% of every single (DSC) episode.

Then how can we take a single thing you say seriously?

If you're not even watching it then on what basis are you making a comparison?

This thread, like the last one, is an exercise in idiocy.

Jeez, what a pile-on.

That said, this other thread (that I have yet to see) in the Disco forum sounds like a bad idea. There's no need to poke the bear.

Well um....does Trip getting pregnant count?
Discovery does have better representation- which is important. But as far as morality goes, Cogenitor is a phenomenal ENT episode where a non binary person is treated as a non entity.

The nuance / ethics / moral quandary / human rights questions this episode highlights are very profound, and it was written 20 years ago. From my POV DISCO doesn't have an episode that compares to Cogenitor as this is pretty deep. After i watched Cogenitor i thought about it long after i viewed it. Was Tripp right- or was he wrong? I can think of no DISCO episode that was as profound.
