Ya hi, my (actual) name is David. I'm right in the midst of my 30s and was born in Germany. Studied (historical) linguistics. Admittedly, I was never much of a Trek fan but I really liked (some of) Enterprise's episodes. Other than that I enjoyed some assorted, if you will, Star Trek stuff from various series. I like Voyager the least, though. I guess I like ENT the best because it puts (a little) more emphasis on languages (but nowhere near as much as there would be in real encounters) and is more 'outdoor' than the others. It's probably not exactly 'canon' as someone here put it, and that's a big plus (for me). Still, even the last non-Anglo Saxon human (linguistically speaking) is gone
. I'll detail my opinion in other posts, I suppose.
P.S. Anybody else wonder about the preponderance of voiceless stops in alien languages and why they all (with the exception of Klingon, of course) seem to have the vowels, "a,e,i,o,u" only? Ah, and why they shun consonant clusters?

) Been lurking at TrekBBS for months now, but the 17+ page topics and the slow loading times (!@#$%^ dialup) kept me away until a little while ago. To everyone here's great intellectual benefit, I decided 'what they heck, why not,' and I'm trying to ward off the message board addiction that plagued so much of my eighth grade life.
