I'm Len - 42 - from NY.

I grew up watching TOS on WPIX in NY ("11 alive"). I have a vague recollection of perhaps seeing it in its original run on NBC - but perhaps that's just wishful thinking! Spent many a college night in the dorm during 1980-84 watching the late night showings with buddies and developing the Trek comaraderie - perhaps doing a little MSTing along the way. (My favorite memory of that was from Arena where a friend of mine suggested that the Gorn, when confronted with Kirk's "gun," should have pulled out an Uzi and said: "Well, the Metrons DID tell us there'd be weapons on the planet..." before blowing away Kirk! (well - it WAS funny at the time!).

Loved TMP when it first came out. Went gaga over TWOK (which remains, IMHO, far and away the best Trek movie - nothing's really close). Liked TSFS and TVH. Don't think I've even seen TFF a 2nd time! But TUC was great.

Was psyched when TNG came out - and utterly thrilled when the 2nd season was much better than the 1st, and the 3rd blew away the 2nd, and...you get the point! Since the start of TNG, I have NEVER missed a single episode of a Trek show - ever. (the few times I missed it when it was broadcast, Iwas quickly able to get a tape and watch it!). It's hard - but I guess I'll admit that in many ways (he said, qualifying), TNG is better than TOS! I got to review the entire series again about 7 years ago when, after showing my wife (who grew up a TOS fan in a family of TOS fan, but who never got into TNG) some of my favorite eps that I had on tape, she was totally hooked and had us watch the entire series! Don't think we've ever got a "Great" TNG film - First Contact was the closest - but it had problems.

Big DS9 fan too. A show that really got better with time. I've actualy only seen the entire series once (perhaps I've seen a few eps a second time). I'd LOVE to rewatch the entire series (or at least my favorite 60 or so which I have on tape) - but, alas, my wife just didn't get into it. So I'm pinning my hopes on my 3 year old son (and my recent newborn son) to give me a chance to rewatch everything - eventually (I'm hoping he's ready within the next 2-3 years)! Any way, I enjoyed the darker Trek - and loved the use of extended storylines (nice that they learned the lesson from the excellent B5). I don't think the show as a whole though quite made it into my heart as much as TNG did - perhaps I just didn't like the characters as much (Picard blows away Sisko, in my book). Perhaps re-viewings will change my mind.

Thought Voyager was the weakest entry. Not that it wasn't worth watching, mind you! There are plenty of terrific Voyager eps - it's just that there are A LOT more mediocre eps than a Trek show should ever have! Plus, I thought Janeway's characterization was all over the board - as if the writers couldn't quite figure her out.

I didn't think things were getting much better with Enterprise - more mediocrity. Worth watching - but barely. UNTIL this past season - which I thought was several warp factors above the first 2 seasons. It's given me hope again that the show can be great.

Well, hope I didn't put too many to sleep on all that!

Hi, I'm SPOCKED, 45, also began watching TOS in it's original run beginning about '68. BIG FAN, as some of you know. You'll catch me on JohnM's Enterprise "running comments, spoilers..." thread with every 1st run episode, as well.

Len, welcome to the board! I was raised on ST also from NY and when you wrote "11 alive" I sort of had a memory flash. PIX came to upstate NY via cable, which we got sometime in 1969. IIRC, TOS reruns began in the summer of '69 via the Syracuse ABC affiliate weekday afternoons. But I'm pretty sure a year or so later we were catching it on PIX. By '70, I was EVERY DAY at my best friends house watching the show. Those were fun times. PIX was an early cable DELIGHT; everything kids loved was on that channel! Thanks for the memory buster :D

Glad to stoke the old memory flames, Spocked! I remmebr they had it on daily (around 6pm I think?) for quite a while - then they moved it late night - but the one time they never lost was the Saturday at 6PM slot. In fact, I think they ultimately replaced TOS with TNG at that time period for several years (until it moved to 7pm I think)! Now I often find that at 6PM on Saturday I feel the sudden urge for a Trek fix! ;)

Im new to posting here, ive been reading posts in the forums for a while and couldnt register b/c the confirmation email seemed never to show up the first time i tried. well, here we go:

20 year old dude from SF California. Been watching Trek since TNG when i was a little lad :) and loved it a lot. After that DS9 came along and proved to be quite different without a starship to go places, i didnt mind much but it implied that there wouldnt be huge space battles (proved so very wrong by the time the Defiant came along hehe). I loved the character development throughout the years, and the fine acting of all the actors in the show. Even Morn seems to exude more of his personality than mayweather has a chance to (just joking of course).

Voyager was the show that brought us back to the idea of exploration, and i remember it well when the first episode aired. I was very excited about this new show and the characters but ultimately felt let-down as the seasons passed. Few episodes out of many entertained, and i just couldnt stand the actors anymore.

Enterprise held as high hopes as i had for voyager. It felt like a fresh start, but unfortunately i also felt let-down again. Even the Xindi Arc was yes, better than the usual crap, but that was it. I think there were only 3-4 episodes i would rate as 'good.'
As Stewey says here,"All IMO" hehe.

Anyways, just a brief intro about me, im sure ill see u all in the forums later. :)

Im 1701-A, 18yrs old living in VA, about to move to FL for college. Ive been under another user name here before but I forgot it and the password so I made up a new one. I rarely post, and if I do it's in this forum, TNG, or Trek art. TNG is my all time favorite series. I definately have like 30 star trek books, including all of the Shatnerverse ones. I have some starship models of Ent-D and 1701, and the engineering set from TNG. I also have some action figures/gadgets as collectors items that I got when I was younger.
Ent is really starting to shape up. Now if we can only get enough seasons to see the Romulan War and the birth of the Federation....

My name is to the left; if you can't see it, well, it's OmniGeno. Age 19, grew up watching TNG. Now an Ent fan, and I am glad it's going beyond 3 seasons.

TNG and DS9 are vying for #1 in my position, followed by Ent. Peace out, all!

Hi, I'm Roy. I'm 29 yrs. old and live in cocoa, fl. I'm a baker at a local grocery store. I've been into star trek and pretty much anything to do with space all my life. I love to read. My favorite authors are Asimov, Bear, and anyone who can write a quality novel. I love history. I'm big into non-fiction books about events during WWII. My favorite shows on tv right now are Enterprise, Stargate sg-1, Alias, Survivor and Monster House. I also love the history channel.

Hi. I'm too young to remember TOS but I've been watching Trek since I was old enough to sit still for 45 minutes. I do Physics, so I'm big on space and the technology in Trek. I like classical music and reading sci-fi and fantasy books (they are not the same thing, darn it!).

I am lady that has turned 29 for several years now

It took me awhile to figure out what I would do when I grew up. After getting degree in history when I was 22 I went back to school later(and worked full-time..the most stressful time of my life) and got a bachelors and masters in my chosen profession (in the health care industry). I really do hate school though (which is a bad thing to say but true)

I have watched Star Trek since the early 70s...Spock was favorite character. Discovered ENT in second season..wish I had discovered at the start...Season 2 had some good and bad episodes...Season 3 has been better (with Twilight being my favorite so far)

Briefly scanning the AA meeting here  and noticed that several people are into history..is this a common characterisctic with fans? My dad is a bigger history nut than I am and he always liked TOS a lot

Other things about me
Really not into Sci Fi/Fantasy very much except really like Star Wars (not this new stuff but old Star Wars). Enjoyed the XFiles, but missed a lot of episodes and it got lame at the end

Never watched Deep Space Nine and very few Voyager (though have seen most of the TNG and enjoyed that)

Hmmm...Quills...31, professional comic artist and writer living in the Washington DC area. I'm into fencing, martial arts, running, scuba and amatuer paleontology. Enterprise is the only fictional series I currently watch on TV. I spend most of my time reading or writing. I write mostly independant stuff, occasional articles, some genre horror, and erotic horror stories for magazines. Currently finishing work on a trilogy series of sci-fi novels. I also write the Trek fan fiction series the Captain Soma Adventures .

My family didn't get it's first color TV until I was 15, so I watched majority of TOS episodes in black and white too (wouldn't have known to look for the poor red shirts)

Interesting. I wonder how many other folks watched TOS in black and white before discovering, sometimes years later, what it really looked like. I never saw it in color until after it was syndicated.

Hello.

My name is Tim and I am 22 years old. I live to the west of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia.
My first experience with Star Trek and what really compelled me to watch it is a bit hazy. I think I'd seen an episode of TOS as a kid but can barely remember it. When I was seventeen I watched my first episode of TNG with no knowledge of it being Trek. I liked it yet did not really pursue it. Funnily enough it was when I watched an episode of Voyager a little later that I really became interested. It was the episode where Kim is lured to an all female planet and lead to believe he is one of them. Not knowing that he was from the Delta Quadrant I thought it was a comelling premise. I began seeking Trek out. I caught one more episode before Voyager was pulled off the telly. I came in half way or so and it was the ep where the Doc has a holographic family. I only learnt he was a hologram himself until a bit later. For a second time the whole concept of the thing really turned on it's head. Only a few months later they put DS9 on. (For any of you who live in Australia channel 9's treatment of Trek is understood to be poor.) It was where Odo and Quark are stranded on a planet and bicker incessantly. Interesting stuff on a character level and the mention of the Orion Syndicate was ominous. It was only later when I watched DS9 more did I realize the importance of that episode in regards to Odo and Quark. I also learnt that the Orion Sydicate thing turned into a bit of a fizzler and it was the Dominion that had the hoopla.
Anyway, I decided to set thing in order and go to the video store and start watching these things properly. TNG became my favourite - probably because it was the first show where I connected with a character and philosophy. That was of course the old cappy. I recognise though that in terms of a developing storyline and character exploration DS9 is the superior show.

That's it.

We didn't get a color TV until about 1975; however, I was able to see Trek in color on my ViewMaster.

Aaaah, what the heck. :) But, no real names. :p

Live in NYC... just celebrated my first Dad's Day at 30. Own a house, love Trek and Lego and motion picture soundtracks and poetry and photographing derelict buildings, done-for cars and other curious things. Graduated from college in 1996, high school four years earlier. Lived abroad for a spell and have been to exactly one Trek con, where the top billing was Shatner and Stewart in their first show together -- ever! (Hotel Pennsylvania for you curious folk -- that's in NYC). Still a Trekker, still love Enterprise, and don't like Voyager so much. Quantum Leap was awesome, as was NewsRadio and Just Shoot Me. Work here in the Big Apple, somewhere downtown. Why do people always assume that I'm talking about Manhattan? ;)

Just realized I hadn't posted in here yet. :p

I'm a late-20s college student living in the NW US. I'm currently majoring in Computer Information Systems, and have been going off and on for a number of years between working full time at various electronics and computer related jobs. Hopefully I'll done with school before I'm dead.

I started watching Trek as a youngin' with TOS and TAS reruns when I was 4 or 5. My older brother was a huge fan of Star Trek growing up (though, he always said "Star TRACK" ), and also introduced me to some other sci fi like Dr. Who, all of which I have just vague memories of. (I only remember the handful of TOS episodes I've seen more recently. Can't wait for the TOS box sets)

It took me a few years to get into TNG. At the time, I was more into the Trek movies (up through 5), and watched TNG because it was Trek and there weren't a lot of other sci fi shows on at the time. I sometimes liked it, but the "evolved" humanity aspect of the show seemed a bit sterile. Especially in comparison to the relationship between Spock, McCoy and Kirk in TOS and the movies. I was also put off by the fact that so many potential good storylines were wrapped up in two-parters or not touched on again. The amount of technobabble introduced into the modern Trek era also put me off a bit, though that would annoy me much later in the next two series. My favorite characters on TNG were O'Brien and Ensign Ro.

When DS9 premiered, I wasn't able to catch the first few episodes, but when I finally saw it in the first season I was ecstatic. I was immediately attracted to the idea of the Trek cast staying where they were and dealing with some of their problems on an almost weekly basis. I was intrigued with Ensign Ro and the Bajoran/Cardassian conflict that was introduced in TNG, so it was great to see that that was the setting used here. Over time, as they began to focus more heavily on the Dominion, that was a little disappointing to not focus so heavily on that original conflict, but the series was great just the same.

DS9's characters did seem somewhat on the too perfect Starfleet side at times, but they were more prone to faults here. There were also the recurring non-Starfleet characters that also made the show great, like Garak and Dukat. DS9s more balanced view of things like religion, and not so heavy handed take on moral issues was also appealing.

DS9 still fell into some of the pitfalls of modern Trek that I find annoying, but it's my favorite.

Voyager, I'm a bit mixed on. It never really cashed in on its full potential, or on any of the "realism" that would have made it more exciting. I did enjoy a number of episodes, though. And it has one of the best casts in Trek, though they were really underused. Especially once Seven joined. (I don't hate Seven, but didn't like that the show focused more heavily on her, the Doc, and Janeway from then on).

Enterprise....I'm also mixed on. Great potential, but I've not really seen anything that I've truly enjoyed in the same way I have with other series. Granted, there's a number of episodes I've missed, especially in the last season. (A problem with our local affialiate and their extremely screwy schedule  :p). My favorite episode so far is probably "Shuttlepod One", as it's the most character based that I can recall. I wish we could see more like it.

I'll be trying to catch up a bit on season 3 this summer now that I'm back home where the schedule is more regular.

Other sci fi shows I like: Farscape (still need to see more of season 3 and 4), Firefly (the closest to perfect sci fi TV that I've probably ever seen. Such a tragedy, but hopefully the movie will do well enough to at least give time to complete some of the storylines from the series), and Babylon 5. B5, I have to admit, I was turned off with initially because of the appearance of the show. Particularly Londo and the goofy peacock hairdo of the Centauri. Once I sat down and watched the DVDs, B5 became one of my favorites, and Londo one of my all time favorite characters. (I actually like the peacock hairdo now, and much of what we learn about the Centauri culture).

To be honest, I'm not so much a fan of Trek these days to call myself a "Trekkie" or "Trekker", though I still like it as a whole, and DS9 in particular. As I've branched out to other sci fi series, I find other shows that I enjoy as well, but without some of what I consider failings of modern Trek. Shows like B5 have their faults, as well, of course, but it's nice to watch a sci fi show and find other frustrations besides sterile characters or too much reliance on technology in the writing for crises, fixes, loopholes, and what not.

I'm also a Star Wars nut, as you've probably seen from my posts in SFF and from my various avatars. Yes, I even like the prequels, though not so much with TPM. Still, I've quite enjoyed the storyline with Palpatine there in TPM, as well as some other things that setup Episode II.

Don't watch much on TV anymore as I spend most of my time online, playing games, or watching DVDs when I'm not busy with schoolwork or something. I do read when I can, and am currently reading Dune. I just finished LOTR and the Hobbit. When I read, I do enjoy a number of topics or genres. For instance, I enjoy Tom Clancy, but also most of the Jane Austen novels I've read. :p

You know, I thought you were a bit younger than me, Mak. Do'h!

This thread predates my term in here. Maybe it would be nice if I read it and perhaps posted.

I've already introduced myself here before. My conduct here at the board may give an insight into my sick and twisted mind.

I am conducting an experiment where I will try to make 100 posts in as short as time as possible by following all the rules of this board. Not odffending anyone and presenting relevant opinions.

In one day I posted about 28 posts. I've done about 15 today of substantially lower quality. They still follow the rules however.

I can do this without getting warned or banned as a 50 post quota required for entry into the Neutral Zone will not deter me.

Rephrase that was confusing.

I'm proving that a post quota is not a sufficient deterrent to bad behaviour in TNZ. I can be civil in my first 50 posts which can be accumulated in a couple of days by following the rules. After this minor inconvenience is done away with, if I choose I can be offensive and what not.

I'm not going to be offensive. Just illustrastraing a point.
I hope you find the excercise both as interesting and annoying as me.
