Ensign Ro Laren, Maquis Founder

I'm rewatching the episode The Maquis in DS9, which the name is first introduced to the series, and I realized that Ro Laren joined before it was named so she is a founding member. For all we know she suggested the name... tho it's named after the French resistance so that leads towards a human naming it...

Regardless it just amused me that she would have to be a founding member if she joined it before the group got a formal name.

I’m confused. When Ro joined them in “Preemptive Strike”, the penultimate episode of The Next Generation, the Maquis was already named. In fact, the name is uttered 31 times in the episode transcript. Also, the two-parter “The Maquis” aired weeks before “Preemptive Strike” and is most likely supposed to take place before the TNG episode chronologically.

But also, why would the fact alone that she joins the group before it has a name make her a founding member? Surely the important thing about them is not the name, but the shared political goals, organizing and planning. All of which seemed to be well in place when Ro joined them. Heck, there wouldn’t really be a reason for Starfleet to send Ro to infiltrate them if they weren’t already “founded”, now would there?

Yeah, respectfully OP but I think you've got your chronology back-asswards.

Ro even says in Preemptive Strike, "Starfleet wants me to infiltrate the Maquis?" So she knew their name before she even set foot on their land.

To the first question yeah I forgot about preemptive strike I didn't go back and look at it for some reason I believe she joined and actually her episode which is named Ensign Ro

So yes by preemptive strike it was already named, however yes if you are part of something when it's named you should be considered a founder, because before that point it is it necessarily an organization.

but that's the thing I didn't go and rewatch The episode as I can't just pull them out of my butt but I did ask Chad GPT if there was an episode in between and it said no so I took it at his work, but there you go AI is kind of crap

There is no Maquis back in the episode Ensign Ro. That episode was season five, the Maquis did not exist until TNG season 7/DS9 season 2.

Ro Laren was not a part of the Maquis when it was named, nor was she a part when it was founded.
Her first contact with the already formed and named Maquis was in Preemptive Strike when she infiltrated them.

yes that's what it seems like you were saying above I'm not sure why you're saying it again, as I said I initially thought she joined in the first episode she was in, you reminded me she didn't enjoy until season 7 so yes you are correct I already said that in the last message.

unfortunately I can't just rewatch them I asked chat GPT and it said there was no episode in between that it was named the Marquis in the next generation it was incorrect, so yes the market formed between season 5 and 7 and she didn't join until season 7, so yes I do now have those facts
