Enjoyed the film until.....(spoilers)

GeneHunt

Commander
Red Shirt
They got to Spocks ship on Nero's ship and it looked EXACTLY like the the ship Qui Gonn, Obi Wan and Jar Jar took up the planet surface.

That completely killed the film for me, call me picky but I was very touchy about J J making it look like a Star Wars film in anyway shape or form.

Talk about overreacting...

I'm sorry but even if they had copied the Gungan ship 100% it's still a stupid reason to dismiss a movie you otherwise liked.

Besides, of course it looks like the Gungan ship, you can only do SO much when you are using a stingray as a starting point.

Im not dismissing it i enjoyed it, ill probably go and see it again. But when just about every cast member and the director are star wars fans and you see something like that one cant help but feel like they are crapping on it a bit by putting something so similar in it.

Couldnt they just of had spock in a runabout or something? im sure he could have jetisoned the red matter from the torpeado bays or beamed it out.

I stand corrected then.

You did say in your OP " That completely killed the film for me" so I thought you totally dismissed the film because of the Jellyfish.

Fair enough I guess lol, It did knock it completely down and frankly disrupted my enjoyment of the film from that point on, ill probably not even notice the next time I see it.

Actually, I do see a resemblance between the Jellyfish and the Bongo. Well, Abrams does claim to be more of a Star Wars fan...

Two things: I guarantee that 99% of the audience was not REMOTELY aware of the resemblance (I had no idea and I've seen all the Star Wars movies). Also, even if they look remarkably similar, I'll bet the Wars one didn't have a rotating section like the one in this movie, so that, in motion, it resembles it a lot less.

The Jellyfish is a vessel commissioned by the Vulcans is it not? I think it fits their design lineage perfectly.

Actually, the bits that kind of jarred with me was the obvious product placements. The nokoia ringtone, budweiser in the bar. That suggests a completely unbroken chain of commerce from today until trek, which doesn't account for world war 3, the eradication of money, etc.

Brands survived the first two world wars and money was never totally eradicated (despite popular belief) in the Trek universe.l

I'm a pretty big Star Wars fan and have contributed to its expanded universe. I can honestly say I was not reminded of anything from that franchise while watching this movie. All I was thinking was "Star Trek rocks!"

I enjoyed the film until the Enterprise leaves orbit to try and save Vulcan. The film was good until then. After that, starting with the lack of on screen defense of Vulcan the film went down hill.....REALLY FAST.

Yes I will never see this movie again because one spaceship in this movie bore a resemblance to a spaceship from another movie so angry right now!!!!
