Yeah, the Strange New Worlds explanation was perfect. It explained away any discrepancies between the original series and the stuff that came afterwards while drawing from established aspects of the lore. It's a perfect fit.
A different continuum though as Jeffrey Hunter and William Shatner are the Pike and Kirk I accept. And please no one can imitate Spock unless his surname begins Nim...

No interest in seeing the CGI versions, made by the same people who think starships turn on a dime and should be in the same shot when they’re thousands of kilometers away from each other. No thank you.
The most annoying thing I ever saw in the updated effects is where the screen shows what's behind them and we see the nacelles. Now I think that wouldn't be seen or needed although I know it's common practice now.

I noticed that too. It would make more sense if the nacelles were not visible (like the saucer isn't visible when viewing forward.
