Emperor Kahless

AdmiralSteven

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Hey everyone, I'm curious to know about Kahless. I'm reading the book 'Full Circle, by Kirsten Beyer, a good book so far. In the book one of the characters is Emperor Kahless. Now, I read online a while back, don't remember where, that Emperor Kahless abdicated the throne because he didn't have the power behind it. I know books aren't canon, but do we know if Kahless abdicated the throne? Thanks.

Kahless left for a while following the Battle of Boreth in "The Left Hand of Destiny". The problem was that the clerics who created him under orders from
Gothmara, the villain of that duology
, got their legend incorrect. They took it too literally. The return of Kahless on Boreth, as foretold in the Story of the Promise, actually referred to a leader who would symbolically serve as a second coming of Kahless;
Martok
. Kahless went walkabout for a while after that revelation
to give Martok time to consolidate his rule without competition
. However, as he's here, the clone of Kahless intends to do his job and serve as spiritual leader of the empire, so he did come back sometime after "A Burning House" but before "Homecoming".

Cool, thanks for that information. I've decided that after I finish reading 'Full Circle' I'm going to take turn and read the books about Klingons so I can better understand them.

"The Left Hand of Destiny" duology is well worth your time, as are the "I.K.S Gorkon/Klingon Empire" books which follow.

Thanks for the recommendations; I'll look them up.

part of the story about Kahless in FC is followed up in A Time for War, A Time for Peace.

you really should've posted this in Trek Lit...

I wasn't thinking when I posted this one. I did, however, start one regarding Klingon books in the Trek Lit board and have gotten a good response.
