Embedded Youtube Videos Won't Play

Hey guys,
I've been trying to figure this one out, and I'm stumped. It only happens here, and a few other sites: I can't play embedded youtube videos. I don't just mean there's a black box that won't play, I mean nothing at all shows up, except a big space where a video should be.

I have tried:

Refreshing Firefox
Disabling Add-ons
Uninstalling and Re-installing Flash
Deleting cookies
Making sure hardware acceleration is disabled
Making sure Ad-block is disabled
Installed an add-on that forced HTML5 and still no video

None of it has worked so far. I was using Chrome because of this, but now Chrome is causing me problems (not video related), so I'm trying to get Firefox to work properly again.

Any ideas?

Info:

Firefox 40.0.3
Windows 10
Flash 18.0

I wonder if it really is a Firefox thing.

I'm constantly looking at yahoo stories that are supposed to have videos, but then there's no video. They aren't being blocked by anything.

Maybe Firefox has reached it's useful end. It's full of so much crap, it reminds me of the last versions of Netscape.

Here is a video I'm showing you from my own Youtube page:

Can you see it? Because I can't. I see this:

screencap_novideo.jpg

I think MLB sees it the same way. I'm wondering if it's vBulletin borking something else aside from the quote/edit issue that already exists for Firefox.

Exactly. I can't see videos here, but if I go over to Wordforge (it uses Xenforo), I can see embedded Youtube videos. Going to Youtube lets me see them no problem. A few other sites are the same way, though, where there's just nothing. I wonder if they're vBulletin, too.

Not sure how to fix the problem, but I can tell you it works fine for me on FF and Win10.

Is it the current version of Firefox? (40.0.3)
What version of Flash do you have?

I can see embedded videos fine here, but I use Safari and haven't used Firefox in ages. Not sure what I can suggest. But if you can visit the YT home page and see videos fine over there, then it sounds to me like a browser-specific issue.

I've been switching between Edge and Chrome to take the place of Firefox, which is why I wanted Firefox to start working properly again. Right now it's Edge and Firefox because I can't catch a break.

I do wish Safari was still being supported for Windows. That was a nice browser. It was a solid backup for me. As I said in another thread, I stopped using Pale Moon because all of my secure sites weren't loading properly, and when I'd try to pay a bill, there would be transaction errors. Then issues starting occurring here with the same Firefox stuff (couldn't quote/edit), and I figured that I might as well use Firefox if it was going to do that.

So I've gone through Chrome, Edge, Opera, Maxthon, and Pale Moon trying to find a replacement for Firefox until it gets its crap together, and there's just nothing. ugh.

One advantage of having a Macbook then, I guess. ;) I used FF on my old PC, but once I got used to OS X I just stuck with Safari because it's proven very dependable and not prone to the problems of some FF versions.

I just don't get why it's doing this. I've done just about everything one can do without reinstalling the OS (no). This shouldn't be an issue. Firefox shouldn't be having these same old issues by version 40.

yep, 40.0.3 here, and I can seethe video you posted above.

Shockwave flash 18.0
Obviously, you've sold your soul to Satan, and I can't trust your data.

Seriously, though, I can't figure it out, then. There has to be something somewhere that just isn't doing what it's supposed to do. I have to find it.

I'm using Firefox 40.0.3 with Windows 7. No problem seeing or playing embedded YouTube videos here or on any other site.

It's fairly easy to tell, since all forums and BBs that use vBulletin look pretty much alike.

I just finished visiting half a dozen vBulletin sites. All of them played embedded video without a single issue. *sigh*

So there goes one theory I had.

I wonder if it could somehow be a video driver issue?

I have the latest video driver my card can run, and up until a few weeks ago, there wasn't a video issue. This is recent, happening somewhere around the latest Firefox update.

I just tried to access my flash control settings, and there was a blank screen. So I went to the Adobe website and on the page where it tests to see if you have flash, I got "you might like to try these offers" and then nothing.

I disabled the Flash plugin, and the Shockwave plugin, and when I checked an embedded video here I saw a gray box telling me the plugin was disabled. As soon as I switched from "never activate" to "ask to activate," it was the clear space again where the video should have been. I just don't get it.

Third post, but an important one!

I installed an add-on called "Fire IE" which lets me use the IE rendering engine inside of Firefox. I switched over to it, went to TrekBBS, opened the thread, and there's my video, ready to play. It's Firefox's engine. Something in the rendering engine is causing this issue.

^ That's kinda weird. Just to let you know, I can see your video just fine.

FF 40.0.3
Flash 18.0.0.209
Win 7

It's very weird. I refreshed Firefox, reinstalled everything, and it still behaves this way. It can't be Windows 10 and FF, because sojourner is on Windows 10, FF 40, and Flash 18, and the videos play for him without an issue.

I wonder what it is about my configuration that could be doing this? Everything has been set to default, and it's still behaving this way.

The add-on for Fire IE is a nice fix (and it even switches automatically so I don't even notice), but I would like to figure out why the browser is having so much trouble.

probably some setting messed up in the registry that's not getting flushed out when you reinstall. You could try uninstalling FF and manually cleaning any related registry entries before reinstalling, but that's a pain in the ass.
