Embedded Youtube Videos Won't Play

probably some setting messed up in the registry that's not getting flushed out when you reinstall. You could try uninstalling FF and manually cleaning any related registry entries before reinstalling, but that's a pain in the ass.
Yeah, it is. I would be tempted to just let it go if that's the case. It is not worth that kind of headache.

Just an update, but I found the problem. It seems Windows Protected Mode was keeping Firefox from opening embedded flash content. I modified the mms.cfg file in my macromedia flash folder, and everything now works without having to use an add-on!

So if anyone else has this problem, go to your system folder (for 32-bit it's System32), and open it, find Macromed, open it, and then open the Flash folder. There's a file called mms.cfg.

Drag that file over to your documents so you can modify it. Open it up with notepad, and on the last line type:
ProtectedMode=0

Save it, and the hold down the CTRL button and drag the file back to the Flash folder.

Close Firefox, wait a few moments, and open it back up. That should fix it!
Keep in mind that Protected Mode makes it so that individual flash processes can be killed by Windows should one of them contain malicious code, but unless you use Flash based programs that involve access to your system, or you use flash programs with financial transactions, you should be just fine.
