Elite Force: Let's Play!

A series of "Let's Play!" videos on Elite Force from Internet Personality Lewis "Linkara" Lovhaug. Some of you may have already seen this, but if you haven't they're pretty fun as Linkara quips and snarks during his playing sessions.

First part of the video is second from the bottom, (the second video under it then the next two videos follow the same pattern towards to top of the page) not the most sequentially ordered set of videos but still a funny listen through.

I never played Elite Force, not much of Voyager fan of fan of FPS games or their use in Trek games, and EF looks pretty crummy to me.

Elite Force is one of the best Trek-related games out there, and it makes about as good a use of the Voyager setting as a game could. The sequel isn't as good, but it's still a satisfying shooter in the Star Trek universe.

From the videos it seems as it's a typical late-90s/2000s FPS game. Looks to be a lot like Doom and about a million of games of the type. Never been a big fan of it so I guess it doesn't impress me much. Also seems like the AI in the game and such leaves much to be desired.

YMMV. All I know is that I still enjoy firing up the game every once and a while, all these years later.

EDIT TO ADD: I don't know about anyone else, but these videos don't seem all that amusing to me.

Elite Force was a lot of fun, it tried very hard to really be both a Star Trek game and a shooter at the same time.

The only real downside was its spawn-based battles. Enter a new room, enemies spawn and attack you for a while, until you get the requisite number or destroy all the spawners. Rinse and repeat.

The environments, dialog, concept, and characters were all very well-done though.

You've really have to watch through them, and get the over all attitude of the player when. Especially when he more "role-plays" the character.

Yeah, the AI in EF is terrible, but the game is still a lot of fun. Probably the most atmospheric Trek game out there.

And I didn't care much for the videos either. I tend to dislike pretty much every Let's Play I've seen, though.

I agree. For a FPS it gave you a good Trek vibe. Plus it took good advantage of the VOY set and characters. The second one wasn't as much fun as the first EF.

My reason for liking Elite Force...

The TOS Starbase 11 mod and the Virtual Dreadnought..

^ those mods are fucking awesome. Laz made a metric fuck-ton of skins and models too, including EVERY major TOS character and TNG and even some NF characters as well as a bunch of Andorians, Vulcans, Romulans, TOS Klingons and much, MUCH more.

EF1 was great, especially multiplayer (even if, let's be honest, it's just a Quake 3 mod) and EF2 SP was okay, but MP was weak.

I loved Elite Force when I played it the first time. It was so much fun, and it did a great job with the Voyager setting. I agree, though, the second one wasn't as fun.

I haven't been keeping up with the EF mod community lately. The Dark Project's forum was what got me hooked on web boards, actually, and I really liked Colony 7. I'll have to see what's been happening in that arena lately.

EF is a great game - I love the level with the combined Federation/Klingon ships all mashed up into one freaky ship. Awesome.

I tried making some multiplayer maps for it, but couldn't get on with the Quake editor. I much prefer the Half-Life one.

I credit EF for recently getting my 11 year old son interested in Trek! :techman: I also occasionally fire it up for some bot-generated deathmatches, usually on one of the Constitution map mods, similar to the ones above.

I've always felt that Elite Force had the better Star Trek feel, but that Elite Force II was the superior game.

I had a lot of fun with this game back in the day. My favorite levels were the ones where you were fighting aboard Voyager. The Borg level was a nice way to open the game, too.

I'm sure there was a level with Terran Empire ships scattered around.

I loved how they explained away weapon switching by keeping each weapon in the transporter buffer.
