Wow, I thought this was a not so elaborate fake, but Snopes indicates it's real.

Impressive.
Proboscidians do appear to exhibit a great deal of intelligence. David Attenborough in one of the Life series he did (I think it was Secret Life of Plants) strongly implies that the reason Africa is covered in grassland is because elephants prefer the taste of grass and knock down trees to enable it to grow as they migrate so they can graze on it later. They also appear to have a terrific appendage for tool use as illustrated by this video!
This is both inspiring and depressing.
