How do these games keep getting made, oblivion was bad enough, it was just so boring, tedious, repetitive and vanilla and the one before it was meh.

*Holds up a crucifix in the face of the MMORPG*
They just don't appeal to me whatsoever. Once upon a time I found the idea cool and wanted to join Ultima Online, then as the years rolled past and online gaming became more mainstream the appeal dropped drastically due to the inevitable increase in the "brainless arsehole" quotient.
Basically what I'm saying is that once you dick around with the TES formula to make an MMO, I firmly believe that the end result will be (yet another) generic fantasy MMORPG and a TES game in name only. If that's the case, and granted it's just speculation on my part, then what's the damn point?
Certainly, and as I said I agree with you on that. I only took issue with your WoW comment (which I don't see as particularly generic in terms of setting).
To be honest, the reason I see a TES MMO becoming generic isn't so much that you have to rework the forumla... as far as I'm concerned, it's because the setting of the TES games (and granted, I've only played Oblivion) is itself pretty darned generic. Remove or change the core gameplay and the IP just doesn't have anything interesting in it anymore.
