It has been an interesting week to say the least.
The company i worked for until Tuesday was crap.. basically. I work in logistics and the company i worked for had too much volume to process for their warehouse sizes, too few workers (or those with more than half a brain), technical problems (their IT was shit up until a few weeks ago when they lost thousands due to company wide failure of the system on two consecutive days) etc on top of questionable management decisions.
Now Tuesday i felt like crap but still went to work because we were understaffed, the new woman wasn't experienced enough and my teamleader was on vacation due to having become a father 2 weeks ago.
Come Wednesday it got worse, i called in sick and went to the doctor and he gave me a note for the rest of the week.. case closed (at least for me). A few hours later i was informed that i was fired due to issues concerning my punctuality (i've never been later than 15 minutes and i have always made up the time and then some) and that i was sick so often (last time i was sick was around christmas).
It wasn't such a big blow to me to be honest since i was already looking for other places to work when Thursday i get a call from an old workplace, i.e. rather the HQ than the subsidiary i worked for when they learned i was looking again (had to leave a few years ago when my contract wasn't renewed due to various reasons chief among them my dissatisfaction on my treatment there and the possibility i might leave).
My first application was for another subsidiary and i should have started Monday but then HQ learned of it and the regional manager for the whole outfit, the top boss, intervened and i quote.. "He's mine..!" so i'll be starting in HQ come Monday.
Good thing i learned of this via phone or everybody would have seen my big grin and red head. Despite all my flaws (and some of the problems in previous years could have been avoided with me being a bit more careful) i must have made a very good impression there for the boss to remember me and intervene on my behalf.
With all the tales of worker dissatisfaction, idiot bosses and plain unappreciation of the common guy this episode made up for some of it. Anyone experienced something similar?
It just made my day when i learned of it..
