Thanks for that. I also just posted a whole essay in Trek Tech, about how the above system could alternatively have worked (strictly optional)
Also, have you considered adding systems from Klingon Academy into the map? Krios is mentioned in the game, for example, but so are numerous new ones.

The Tal'ihnor Gate system, for example, I figure is out near Balduk, and also in territory The Rise of the Federation books would previously have described as Ware Partnership space, for example.

I don't doubt your excitement about that! I'd be interested to see that Shackleton Expanse map at some point, if only to compare notes!

Oh. Another thing that may cause some confusion later that I want to address now: if its host star and/or position is already established via Star Charts/Stellar Cartography and/or "on-air", that's where that system is going to stay on the EoM maps. Otherwise, I'm pulling from the Gaia DR3 data for positioning. With exceptions on a case-by-case basis determined by John as lead author or myself for whatever artistic (excuses/reasons)...such as Sauria.

A week later, and I'm thinking that I accidentally put K'Linsann and North Pasadena in the same binary system. That may have been a mistake. Yes, they're both IKS worlds, but that might stretch things a bit more than needs be.

Wow, thanks for the feedback! I'm a hardcore Star Wars fan, and with the Essential Atlas, we got spoiled rotten with cartographic details. Nearly every mentioned system in ALL media ended up in it, or in the appendixes.

Star Trek obviously has nothing comparable yet, so fan content is often all that can really aspire to anywhere near that level (often with much inconsistency, too) So I am only too happy to have helped.

Always wanted to play through Klingon Academy also, but installing it was always fiddly.

If it's not too much trouble, could you give any tips on a basic three-dee layout of the Klingon, Romulan and Cardassian estimated borders, in terms of distance from each other - some time? As that would be a big help elsewhere.

Would have to use estimated systems in HYG plus officially placed ones as yardsticks, presumably.

Anyway, great developing project, so far.
 
There are other people who've been working on this long before I got involved with EoM. I'm hoping to learn from some of them. And I think that to do this properly, I'd need to learn to use Blender.
 
I love the level of detail in the EoM star chart. I have a question, and I'm hoping you might know the answer:

Along with each star's name there is a parenthetical notation, e.g., (141) or (-121). Am I correct in reading that as the star's distance above or below the celestial equator/galactic plane? If so, can you share with me what the source of that information is? I'm working on an article about how the precise position of Alpha Doradus/Freecloud was established in the Star Trek star charts, and I am curious from where its figure of -112 was derived.
 
Your reading is correct. HYGMap.space is my source for that info, and after converting from parsecs to light-years, I round up/down to the nearest lightyear because I need the room for as many stars as I can fit in. If I added in all the decimal places...

I decided that I wanted those Z-axis coordinates in there, inspired by the examples set by role-playing games such as Space Master and 2300 AD.

Also, if it was published in Star Charts/Stellar Cartography and/or aired on screen, that's the position it keeps on the X-Y plane. Anything else, I use HYGMap.space and its references to Gaia Data Release 3, courtesy of the European Space Agency. Blessed be Jed Whitten for his help here!

So, one of those data sources placed Alpha Doradus at -122 light-years from the galactic plane? That's fascinating. Based on its declination and straight-line distance, I would have expected to find it closer to -140. But -122 suits me just fine, because that declination yields an x-axis distance on a 2D map that puts Freecloud exactly where my new novel needs it to be. :-)

I set a position for Fenris, and I set boundaries for Qiris sector, but I didn't want to commit to locations for Vashti or Diamanta. I might share the book's front-matter star charts on Bluesky before the book comes out on the 27th.
 
In FIREWALL, what you call H'Atoria sector the Fenris Rangers call Qiris sector. Maybe we can chalk it up to a cultural divide, a la Istanbul vs. Constantinople. ;)
 
Or I could have the "altitude" of H'Atoria wrong. I've seen the "Attentive Senpai" map of STO space, and they have a different star chosen - they chose Gliese 329, as opposed to my choice of GJ 2061 - that seems to fit the X-Y plane coordinates almost as well.

*double-checks some details*

In fact GJ 2061 sits almost directly below Gl 329 according to the current Gaia data. It's a double-star pair...and I think I locked it in for H'Atoria based on my "previous publication + on-air usage" rule. Star Charts was created using the Hipparcos Mission data, right?

But, yeah...I'm remembering VAN's differing names for the Taurus Reach/Gonmog Sector region...so that works for me.
