Ed Bishop

i was watching TAS episode the magicks of megas-tu when I heard a familiar voice. He wasn't in the credits but IMDb confirmed t was ed bishop! So, yes, I'm sure I'm the last person in this group to figure it out, but it did make me put in some of my UFO discs! Man, I lived the purple hair and the interceptors on that show. It was awesome to find a cross over. Any other UFO ornspace:1999 actors cross over?

Apparently when Ed Bishop finished work on UFO he returned to the US and a year or two later was earning a living as a painter and decorator! In one house he was working in the hallway when he heard the family watching UFO and he later on went in the room and asked for his payment and no one batted an eyelid at him as the same guy on the screen!

Some sources say so. D.C. Fontana says that it's not true.

I'm inclined to go with D.C. Nobody seems to say it's true except for Landau. He may have been considered when they were threatening to replace Nimoy during his walkout, but for years, everyone else seemed to say Nimoy was first choice.

Any idea when this rumor started?

Landau wasn't even on the list when Nimoy threatened to walk. He would have been too expensive, wouldn't have made a long-term commitment, and was already crucially invovled with Mission: Impossible, which was probably more important to Desilu.

True, and we actually discussed this on a thread I created a few years ago. You provided some great reference material, as usual.

Worth a Fact Check article? :)

No idea when it started, but I think it was Landau himself who did. He's been quoted repeatedly as being offered the role first and turned it down because he didn't want to play an emotionless character. I've never read or heard anyone from the series itself corroborating his story.

It may be worth a fact check. The hard part is actually proving that Landau was never offered the part. What can be said is that there's no archival evidence he was considered for it, that Fontana says he was NOT considered, and that Landau's version doesn't really make sense for a few reasons (we went over this in the linked thread, which I just re-read yesterday!).
