Eccleston joins Big Finish (no, really)

Eccelston said it would take hell freezing over before he went back to the role on tv...and then his feed froze up and cut him off.

Smith's said he's up for it, it's just that he (and Karen Gillan especially!!) are too damn busy with other roles and in no hurry. Capaldi will do it too at some point, but probably not until Jodie is off the air so as not to steal her thunder.

When I went to watch my BF story being recorded a few years ago I asked about Matt and they said his agent was very slack in passing opportunities along as there wasn't enough money in it. Obviously that was a few years ago (and Matt might have a new agent by now), and the money can't be that bad given how many Who/Blakes 7 alumni they've employed. They can't all be doing it for the love of the show/fans (though I'm sure a great many do).

I'm too cynical I know but between BF and conventions I wonder if Eccleston's agent has finally worn him down over the revenue streams he was ignoring.

Not that they couldn't have (Jacob Dudman is quite versatile),with David Bradley, Tom Baker, Peter Davidson, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Ecclestone and David Tenant already on board, Matt Smith and Pater Capaldi "interested" we've got to expect some sort of all Doctor event in the foreseeable future. Especially with three successfully recast with Tim Treloar.

There must be a way to include Two and the War Doctor.
Well, the War Doctor is sorted.
He was interviewed this morning from the car park at Big Finish's studio. Mostly about charity work but he was asked if these recordings meant we might see him back on TV again. His reply made it clear that there's still no love lost between him and the BBC.
The phrase "when hell freezes over" was used !

Shame, I'd love to see him and McGann do something on TV with 13. They both have some unfinished business.

No BBC? He's spent the last four years making The A-Word for the BBC, he currently narrates Ambulance for the BBC. Since he left Who he's worked for the BBC on numerous occasions, including Accused and The Shadow Line.

I'm sure there are some people still working on Who from the time of series 1 but it's unlikely any of these people were remotely in a position of authority back then. The production staff has changed multiple times since then. Even Chibnall didn't start working on Torchwood/Who until after he'd gone.

Seems he's happy to work for the BBC, and happy to play the Doctor, just doesn't want to play the Doctor for the BBC?

Off the cuff remark.

He's on a journey now. If the Big Finish stuff goes down well (as if it wouldn't !) he'll warm further, maybe do another convention or two, meet more Doctors, feel more comfortable, get told by Jodie or another cast member "It would be great for you to guest on the show !" and so on...

He'll get there.

We can hope. Just to stress though, I don't feel he's beholden to play the Doctor again, it really is his choice, its just his logic for saying no feels flimsier all the time. I too am certain he'll come around, even if it's just coming back once, maybe for the 60th, and then saying that's it!

60th would be perfect.

Fan wank only I know, but an Eight and Nine TV miniseries leading into the 60th special would be fantastic !

Let's put that comment into a little more context because he referenced the eagles album 'When Hell freezes over' which was the result of the eagles getting back together years after saying "when hell freezes over" when asked if they would get back together.

It didn't even occur to me they'd give him new, original companions, I just assumed it would be Rose.
Would that mean these have to take place before his time on the show? I don't remember there being any obvious gaps in the show where he could travel with other people.
