I would say, a life where you don't need to smoke your meat against the biting cold, but you eat it fresh and juicy only lightly touched by the grill, with plenty of fresh, raw, crunchy vegetables. I can live that life.

(Not that there's anything wrong with freshly grilled meat, but a good brisket is in a totally different category of delicious.)

mr trampledamage lived in Stockholm one summer and pretty much lived off the local rye bread, but we've never been able to find anything as good either in the UK or here in Canada.

Don't get me wrong; I love a good sandwich made with soft bread (it' just a shame you can't see what's in it unless it's made as a cow with a cracker on each side) but I've often wondered how people that live off that kind of food can have a decent dump! -I mean: there's hardly any fiber in it

In a culture with that kind of food you tend to learn to use utensils rather early
(note that the 'filling' should cover the bread and that pickled herring is always served with aquavit! -fish gotta swim, as we say)

The only thing that look vaguely inviting is the tall glass of beer.

More seriously, I'm not accustomed to Nordic food, so I can't really commend on it. I've tried German food and it wasn't really my tastes, but you never know. Still, I plan to visit some time or the other, so I'll have the opportunity to change my mind. There are always surprises: for example, I found Scottish food surprisingly palatable.
