Eat nuts, kick butts: Marvel's Unbeatable Squirrel Girl

The tail is part of her body.

I don't think Speedball is Penance any more.

The Illuminati rumbled the (new, but same as the 80s) Contest of Champions 2 months ago and wound up with Night Thrasher as a new team mate, because no one sent Dwayne back where they found him, 1 second before Nitro detonated in Stamford kicking off the first Civil War.

SG dated Speedball, as I recall. Deadpool took such perverse pleasure in handing her the issue of Civil War where he was 'ruined' & watching her read it.

Did they date? I just reread I heart marvel masked Intentions where they had their first kiss/met, and frankly it looked like assault to me. He was full of himself, and just kissed girls for no reason, but fortunately Doreen was already in love with Robbie because she's mental and thinks that she can be in love with people that she has never met before, so she didn't sock him for being fresh.

(Morello from Orange is the New black?)

She tried to hook up with later after Speed ball transitioned into Penance.

It did not end well.

Yes, Squirrel Girl has a squirrel's tail, sharp buck teeth that can bite through walls and stuff, and the proportional strength and agility of a squirrel (although I wonder if squirrels are really all that strong, proportionally). All part of having the powers of both squirrel and girl.

The thing about a squirrel's tail, though, is that it's very fluffy, so that it can be compressed down to a smaller size and hidden in her trousers when she's in her civilian identity.

This one-time total joke of a character's been operating under the radar for almost 25 years now. But with Anna Kendrick's recent public interest, scene-stealing appearances in Marvel video games/animated shows and her increasingly visible status in the comic Avengersverse (both U.S.Avengers and Great Lake Avengers comics are forthcoming, in addition to her wildly popular series), it sure feels like Doreen Green is thisclose to blowing up and becoming the Marvel Cinematic Universe's family-friendly alternative to Deadpool.

Or is that just too nuts?
Maybe it is nuts, but I know I would watch the heck out of a Squirrel Girl anything.

No. Give Anna a chance first. Please.

I don't really know much about the character, is she actually genuinely that powerful in the Marvel universe, or is all just kind of luck/jokey way etc? And if the former what is it that makes her so powerful? Just curious

The joke is that her power initially seems unimpressive -- the power to talk to squirrels and to do squirrel-like things -- but then she ends up taking down the biggest badasses in Marveldom. Her debut story by Steve Ditko had her (and her legion of squirrels) taking out Dr. Doom, and it's been a running gag ever since. She doesn't win by the conventional punchy-zappy means (though she is apparently superstrong now, which she didn't seem to be in the original story), but she always manages to come out on top through her unexpected methods and unrelenting positive attitude.

In The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl,
she tends to "defeat" villains by talking to them and helping them find better solutions to their problems than killing Spider-Man/robbing banks/eating the Earth/whatever, so everyone goes away happy. It's an all-ages book, and a comedy, so it tends to favor problem-solving and niceness over violence. But there are cases where her superstrength and her army of squirrels make a real difference as well. For instance, the intelligence she gains from her nationwide network of squirrel friends can help her get a leg up on problems no one else is aware of. Plus she has her similarly animal-themed allies, Chipmunk Hunk and Koi Boi, who... aren't really all that helpful, from what I've seen of them. But SG's ability to build alliances and convince both good guys and bad guys to cooperate is one of her greatest strengths.

More retcons from "The House of Ideas".

Captain America is a HYDRA Agent.

Tony Stark is adopted.

Wanda and Pietro aren't mutants.

Cyclops is a terrorist and now his younger self is being labeled as "kid Hitler".

Nick Fury is a murderer and assassin.

Gwen Stacy and Norman Osborn had a secret affair when Gwen was with in Peter, while they were in college. Resulting in twins she never told Peter about.

Peter and MJ's marriage never happened. Thanks to OMD and OMIT.

The Terrigen Mists are fatal to mutants and sterilize them. Where before they either enhanced or caused no effect to mutants.

There are more, I'm sure. What won't Marvel change in order to squeeze a story out of their characters?

^ A universe of unimaginative, just plain stupid, gimmicky plotting.

A new girl has thrown her leather jacket in the ring: Stranger Things' Shannon Purser.

She's the right age (19), looks like she just stepped right out of the pages of Henderson's comic, and (I haven't seen it myself) reportedly stole the show in her first-ever acting gig as Barb.

Opinions?

i'd be fine with that. she wasn't in very many scenes but she was good. especially for a first timer.

Squirrel Girl Beats Up The Marvel Universe.

She’s beaten Thanos. She’s bested Galactus. She’s thwarted Doctor Doom (twice, but who’s counting?). But in this all-new graphic novel, she’ll take on her most dangerous, most powerful and most unbeatable enemy yet: HERSELF! Specifically, an evil duplicate created through all manner of mad science (computer and regular type). So what happens when two Unbeatable Squirrel Girls clash? You’ll have to wait to find out, but believe us – it’s going to be NUTS!

Sold!
