Zombieland and Venom writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have a film in development by Universal titled "Earth vs Moon"
a huge sci-fi war film

the writers confirm the lead character of the story has been written specifically for Will Smith. They want Smith so bad they have even named the lead character Will.

picked up by Universal Pictures.
Reese and Wernick are currently working on a second draft of the screenplay
to be produced by Scott Stuber (producer of the new Benicio Del Toro-helmed Wolf Man)

the story is described as a space-set epic.

Hmm, would this be more like Starship Troopers, Halo (2012 release), Doom, or Aliens?

Reese explains that it's "set about 300 or 400 years in the future"
Rhett Reese:It’s a science-fiction epic war movie ala, I don’t know, Braveheart or, uh… whatever things can we compare it to. It’s sort of got a little Star Wars in it, a little Braveheart, a little 300 in it.

It’s a colony on the moon. And the colony on the moon is fighting Earth.

It’s like it’s sort of exactly what the title suggests. It’s big and crazy
"It's about two societies at war, but it's also about a family, not at war, but a fractured family. Half of them have gone to the moon and the other half are still on Earth and so they are on opposite sides of this conflict and we wanted to make sure that as big of movie as it's going to be, it works on a small level.

Sounds like a civil war story in space.

Will Smith will most likely say no and the movie will fail apart then.

Cool, but my holy grail continues to be a TV series about a war between Earth and a Mars colony. Cmon, somebody make that! :p

Did they actually film the pilot to Revolution? And, if so, why hasn't SyFy aired the damned thing yet?

Yeah, well, but Warehouse 13...

Okay, I tuned out after catching 20 minutes of the pilot. If I want to watch something fluffy I'll watch some television from the 1980s. Poor Saul Rubinek.

You beat me to it! Hell, I want someone to make mini-series of Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy (one mini-series for each book).

And you beat me to this. :p
Great minds think alike. :bolian:

Indeed!

I actually just started a re-read of Red Mars. Can't help but imagine what that opening chapter in Nicosia would look like on screen. Between what would be an incredible-looking setting in the city, the rioting and Boone's assassination, it would be a hell of a beginning to a mini-series.
