Early 1980s (or earlier) Star Trek pop cultural references

Thanks, I'd watched that video before posting earlier today and noted McCoy at the beginning, will have to pay attention next time it's on the radio. Considering the level of repeats on Sattelite radio channels, I imagine I won't have to wait very long.

Will have to listen to the other song(s).

Interestingly, the Rhino version of the video had that part cut from the beginning, which informed my speculation about the radio edit.

Well, I also said "SNL skits are too easy" in my original post, but then I violated my own rule with the late 80s "Information Society" reference.:)

Not a pop culture reference per se, but here's a still from an episode of Laverne & Shirley from 1982 that uses what my brother is sure is a Tribble (they were both Paramount shows).

EDIT: Within the context of the Laverne & Shirley episode, our possible Tribble is playing the role of a moldy grapefruit that Shirley found while cleaning under her bed.

SCTV had a run in with the alien Zontar trying to take over the station ( 4th season 1981 episode) having Star Trek style musical cues and Deforest Kelly (as played by Dave Thomas) solving an alien invasion with cabbages instead of pod people..

Yes, with Conrad Bain's twin brother Bonar Bain playing Conrad Bain's fictional twin brother Hank Bain! I forgot "Kelly" was in that.

Here's Lucy referenced it at least twice: http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/...culture_references_(live_action_television)#H

"Lucy's Safari"
The mugato costume, sans horn, is used for a rare gorilla/baboon hybrid called the "gorboona".

"Lucy's Replacement"
When Lucy Carter comes into the Unique Employment Agency's office and sees EXMO III (a large computer that her brother-in-law and boss Harry has rented to replace her as his assistant), she asks him, "What's this, a leftover from Star Trek?"

I just mentioned that one because of the possible tribble above. But the other does hold. Maybe there should be a second thread for prop/costume reusages?

I can't believe nobody thought of E.T. The Extraterrestrial. Towards the end of the film after the kids steal the government van they stop at a playground and this exchange happens:

REM has a song called "Where's Captain Kirk?"
They do? I'm a big R.E.M. fan and I've never heard of it. Was it a B-side or something?

The early 80s movie Zapped! showed a telekinetic Scott Baio hovering a kitbashed Millennium Falcon with Enterprise nacelles around his bedroom:
