Earliest Star Trek memories

Hello all,

This thread is here if you want to share your earliest Star Trek memories.

Let's begin:

Memory 1: I remember my oldest brother (8 yrs my elder) being a Star Trek fan. On his 13th birthday, he got both TWOK and TSFS on VHS, and I was very excited, perhaps because of the awesome cover art.

Memory 2: I remember my mom's uncle taking us (my family) to see TUC in a theatre which no longer exists when I was 6. It was the first Trek movie I saw in theatres and I felt like I was catching the tail end of something great. Today, I'm glad to say I was able to see a TOS film when it first came out.

Memory 3: When I was very young, I remember my oldest brother being old enough to stay up with my parents and watch TNG at night (not sure what time). I distinctly remember having a bedtime prior to TNG, but that didn't stop me and my other brother from trying to sneak downstairs to catch a glimpse of the show before being spotted and hauled off back to bed!

Also, though I don't remember this, I'm told that my parents met William Shatner in the 80s, and apparently he held me as a baby.... Wonder if he could hold me today? :vulcan:

What are your earliest Star Trek memories?

The Motion Picture on the big screen in Sheffield 1979, aged 5, first ever visit to the cinema, the main thing I remember is the Enterprise in space dock and how big it seemed. I guess you could say that was me hooked from that day onwards. Always had a massive soft spot for TMP, I think it still holds up pretty well today, the music, and epic scale for me is something that Trek has lacked ever since, though the latest 2 movies have got close. The flyby sequence is probably my favorite moment in all 12 films, hell even the whole franchise

I have dim memories of watching TOS during its original run on NBC. (I would have been seven or eight at time.) It was a big deal to be able to stay up past my bedtime to watch it, but my dad was a sci-fi fan who made sure I was exposed to all the right stuff: The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Batman, King Kong, Frankenstein . . . and Star Trek.

It amuses me to no end that my youngest brother is currently introducing my little nieces to TOS via home video--although I gather the Salt Vampire inspired some nightmares. :)

We got cable TV in 74 when I was 11 and I began watching WPIX out of New York City and they often played TOS. I do not remember my first episode but I do know I was quickly hooked and became a big fan right there and then.

I have a brother who is two years older and a brother that is two years younger and neither one of them ever got into Star Trek.

I've recounted the tale before, but here's the short version:

I was 15 when Star Trek first aired in 1966. My first glimpse of it was about halfway through an episode, during a station break on another network. It was "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" The scene was Kirk hiding in the caves from Ruk. I was not immediately impressed, and switched channels after a few minutes. I was willing to give the show the benefit of the doubt since I'd not started from the top of the hour, so I tried again the next week ("Miri", apparently). That drew me into the show.

First Star Trek episode I ever saw (TOS on NBC in 1969) - Elaan Of Troyius (I was 6).

Been hooked ever since.

1967, I was 5 years old and got to catch some episodes. I was hooked even then, though all I really understood was cool fights and pretty girls.

In '71 or so I was able to catch all the re-runs and absolutely feel in love with the series. A love affair that endures to this day. :luvlove:

Kirk was my first and still my favorite hero of them all. :techman:

When I was about 4 or 5 my mother went to visit a lady who had the tv on, which I was planted in front of so they could talk. It was The Doomsday Machine and it scared the crap out of me.

DS9, seeing shapeshifters "meld" or whatever they were doing, when I was a kid.

I begged my parents to let me stay home on a Friday evening while they went to a get-together at the church across the street, promising to polish dress shoes (one of my regular Saturday chores) while they were gone. Since the 3rd season of Star Trek was on Friday nights, this must have been 1968-1969, making me 7 years old. I don't remember what the episode was, just that I was thrilled not to miss my favorite show and get to stay home alone, to boot!

I must have been watching for a while before then. I had been given the Star Trek boardgame from Ideal (released in 1967) sometime earlier. And when I had an extended illness (chicken pox, I think), my dad helped me build an AMT Klingon ship model, complete with small lights. It was the first model either of us had ever built, so it was pretty terrible. (The "neck" never stayed attached to the "body", no matter how much glue we used.) But I have fond memories of working on that model with my dad.

Being royally cheesed off when my parents wouldn't take me to see TMP in theaters because they thought it would be too boring "like watching the news"

Seeing TWOK in theaters and being blown away. At age 9.

Being really unclear which Enterprise had the glowing red torpedo tubes above the main deflector (TOS or Refit), but knowing without a doubt that this was my FAVORITE trek ship feature.

Watched TOS in syndication of WPIX NY.

That must have started before I saw TMP in the theater at age 7.

Hooked from the start!!

My first glimpse of Star Trek was "The Lights of Zetar" in first run. I was not yet 7, and I remember my older brother pointing to the ship's saucer section and saying, "That's where the people ride."

The woman lying on the floor of Memory Alpha, gurgling with her face turning colors, scared me. Her dying didn't help, either. I remember saying "I don't like this show."

I don't think I gave ST a chance again until it went into syndication. I was 8 or 9 by then. Today I think "Zetar" is a great episode.

I fibbed and said I was sick so I wouldn't have to go to Saturday evening church just so I could watch Star Trek: TOS.

It was that Wednesday evening, September 7, 1966. School had just started and I was 10.

I remember not being allowed to watch the part of TWOK where the Ceti eels crawl the in ears of Chekov and Capt Terrell because it was too scary.

I also remember thinking Spock's name was Spot and that it was weird he had a dog's name...

Great memories, everyone! Most of the replies seem to be from people who have been with Trek since its original run

Not sure how old I was, but I remember being scared of TWOK when Chekov got the eel implanted, and being scared of Worf. :D

TAS in its original Saturday morning run, too early to recall details but I was 3 or 4. And then toy commercials.
