E3

I would think that they didn't show it because it's not important to them: The controller and the experience is the selling point. As far as I'm concerned, they told us the three most important things, making "my penis is bigger than yours" type statements of hardware specs unneccesary.

1) It will output in full HD
2) It will have onboard storage (Based on John Riticello's comments that the system will be able to receive DLC and updates... I will try to dig up the exact quote)
3) It has an open online capability.

Honestly, over a year away from release, that's all I need to know that the big N is at least trying.

When I saw the new controller revealed I was excited by thinking about all the cool new ways games could be played using the touch screen and "hidden screen" for multiplayer. I was also thinking about how awkward it might be to hold something that big and how much it will cost to get some 4 Player Smash Bros. going. What's under the hood or how many dual-shaded polygons the system can push didn't even cross my mind for a second.

Judging by the fact that they didn't show off the console itself, just the controller, I'm guessing that they're still waiting to nail down the specs, so it will probably be released "Holiday 2012". Very confusing press conference though, for the first 20 minutes of the WiiU demo I thought it was just a peripheral for the Wii, failing to show the console while showing Wiimotes and Wii-like games was a mistake which took away from the impact of the announcement.

Most third party games will probably be 360/PS3 ports with touchscreen stuff added as a gimmick, much like some of the Kinect stuff. It has potential and I can see the new Xbox and Playstation coming with a similar controller if this prints Nintendo more money, but until we get to see games using it it's hard to tell if it's going to be something worthwhile or yet another annoying gimmick.

Nintendo wins this year, but only because MS and Sony failed to be all that interesting.

Honestly? The Microsoft presser did it for me, if only because they had the most of the kinds of games I like on display. Although my biggest surprise was honestly that Star Trek, because I didn't expect to see any trailer for it for a while.

This Wii U thing? Looks interesting, but after having a Wii collect dust for a few years, I don't give a shit about innovation, just entertainment.

I absolutely agree with you re: awkwardness and price.

well i was wrong on my controller guess... oh well.

i dont get the confusion around the console... it was in the demo videos, in the background...

what was troublesome (from what i've seen) is that they had no games to show, just tech demos. sure there were plenty of ports to see, but remember, these ports will be landing around a year later. i'm not willing to hold off for a year to play arkham city on the wii-u.

Well I'm reminded how much I laughed at the Wii when it was announced and we saw how that turned out. I'm having the same reaction today to this . . . whatever it is. So if that's any indication, maybe it means they're on to something. But good Lord I sure can't see the attraction.

Guess I'm just a controller kind of guy and I'll never get used to all this motion/touch stuff. Oh well.

Well one bit of good news is that all your expensive Wii games and peripherals will work on the new console...at least that's something to be happy about.....I'm personally all peripherals out at this time.

Hopefully theyll release more fighting games that way I can justify buying an arcade
Stick for one game on the wii.

GameTrailers 20 hours, 2 day web show is over, have to say they put together a wonderful production and I enjoyed watching it. I hope the next 2 days of E3 actually see some more great announcements and plenty of videos for Alien: Colonial Marines ;)

I'm kind of disappointed by the announcement of Brothers in Arms: Furious 4. I'd rather Gearbox continue the story they left off with in Hell's Highway. Furious 4 makes me think they're just going to do Borderlands: World War II Edition.

When I saw the zapper attachment for the Wii-U after hearing Colonial Marines was gonna be on the console, I was like "Motion tracker on top of my gun... OMG."

Its just a pity I will buy it several months before for the PS3.

See, that's the beauty of me being cheap. I refuse to ever spend more than $20 for a game... so often times I end up waiting a couple years. Comes in handy when they double dip on games or better versions come out later, like RE4 Wii edition, which is so by far the definitive version of that game.

so is zelda the only nintendo game for the wii for the next 18 months? i cannot recall them showing any other wii titles at their press conference.

in non-nintendo news, saints row the third looks great. nba2k12, with "move" integration, looked awful. i dont know what 2k is going to do to have 2k12 top 2k11, but that isnt it.

nevermind, i just found a link with the wii games

E3 2011: Nintendo Teases More Games

ho hum... i do not miss skipping the wii this generation. and based on the info coming out of e3, i dont think i missed anything by skipping it again.

i do wish they put some of the demos out on the PSN or Xbox Live... i'd love to play a bit of Saints Row 3 or the new Tomb Raider.

The reason for the confusion - as always - is that people are fucking stupid.

To be fair, no company has spent more time talking about the controller then the actual console when they first announce it at E3.

It wasn't the best put together event.

good points

but it is nintendo, the hardware will be adequate at best... the controller and the games are what people care about.

though if you are going to claim you are marketing towards the hardcore, you'd best provide the hardcore with something they'd want to know (system specs)

overall, i'm a bit shocked at the amount of backlash nintendo is getting for the console. i expected some backlash, but i'd figure love for nintendo nostalgia would blind most people.
