E3 2010 thread of E3-ness and MASSIVE LEAKS

^Do you mean Portal ? Steam on PS3 wouldn't make sense.

Well it sounds like it's going to have Steamworks as part of the game, because it will connect to steam for updates and community and steam cloud.

It's a shame, I like that consoles didn't have all the same DRM and online requirements of their PC brethren. That's been starting to change unfortunately. It might encourage to play more on my PC now if I gotta put up with the same BS either way.

well i was way off with my Nintendo predictions... oh well. i should have predicted more rehashes, since that seems to be Nintendo's bread and butter (especially at the launch of a handheld).

eh, still nothing is really standing out for me.

Wait, I don't get it, why would anyone be upset about Nintendo making new games on some of their classic franchises? That's Nintendo's greatest strength, they have most of the most famous and beloved IPs in the industry.

When they release new IPs, people get mad that "Nintendo's ignoring their core"

When they make games for their core they get accused of "rehashing"

from what i've read, the "new games" are about as "new" as Mario 64 for the DS...

personally, i dont care. i am not a core fan of nintendo. i respect what they do. and i think what they do, they do it pretty well... but they tend to make the same games over and over again.

new nintendo IPs, great. but i dont care. are they dropping their core audience? maybe, but they dont care nor do i. going after non-gamers is awesome. and sometimes they succeed (wii sports) and sometimes they fail (wii music)

nintendo's got their own plan and they stick to it for better or worse. sometimes they seem like they lead the pack, sometimes they seem like they are stuck in the same place from 10 years ago.

Considering how they have the new Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Metroid game coming out plus the recent release of Mario Galaxy, I don't see how the argument can be made (at this point in time) that they are ignoring their core. Granted, a few years back that was the case but this year it seems like they're kicking it into high gear and trying to cater to their old fans

I guess this only plays to hardcore Nintendo fans because other than Kirby, I'm not really that excited. Which is funny because most people generally agree that Nintendo "won" E3. Penny Arcade included.

I don't know if anyone has done a write up, but I'm assuming it means PC/PS3 interoperability. Although realistically, it probably just means that Steamworks has some matchmaking backend and they want to show that it works for PS3 games so that developers start using it there as well.

Well, speaking for myself, the games that Nintendo announced are the same games that made me a gamer in the first place. I definitely know I am not alone in that group and I think it's safe to say that most individuals in the gaming media fall into that category as well. Nostalgia is a powerful weapons and for the most part, Nintendo is the only group that wields it

Plus, it also helps that Nintendo doesn't do a new release every fucking year. Yeah, I'm looking at you Call of Duty

It's sort of hard to blame Nintendo for what they do with their IPs because they almost always sell. If their customers are happy and Nintendo is happy (and with their sacks of money, I'm sure they are) then they can just keep doing what they're doing. A lot of it doesn't interest me that much, so I just ignore it and pay attention to the bits that do.

And I'm certainly guilty of falling into line on occasion. If they made a 3DS Metroid 5, I'd probably buy 10 copies.

Between the Ocarina of Time and Starfox 64 ports, Pilotwings and Mario Kart, I am so there for 3DS.

thatgamecompany didn't disappoint either:

Journey is an "online adventure experience" that has players encountering strangers. According to the press release, traveling with others will "re-shape the experience -- creating authentic moments that they will remember and discuss with others."

tgc never disappoints. :)

And yeah, I don't blame Nintendo either. I just wish they'd try to make some new IPs that aren't Wii Music. It seems like they haven't figured out anything substantial that's worth playing with the motion controls except for party/casual games. That goes for every company, but Nintendo has been doing for a while now.

They've tried a couple of things. Ghost Squad is the only one to come to mind right now. They crashed and burned though. Golden Sun seems to have done okay though.

One thing I think Nintendo should have done though was fight to keep Perfect Dark. MS and Rare have pretty much wasted one of the best franchises out there.
