E3 2009 Discussion thread HOLY SHIT MONKEY ISLAND IS BACK

My thing is that a lot of games just disappear. Maybe the new Games on Demand service will change that, but until that gets implemented and I have some sort of guarantee ala Valve that MS won't walk away and leave me hanging with some unplayable files, I'm not sure I'll put that much faith in disc-less games.

The other thing was that I only picked it up because I wanted the 3D artbook. I got maybe 10 bucks of value from that.

Is it just wrong that I'm more interested in Project Natal as a shiny new, Minority Report way of controling Media Center than for its gaming potential? ALL of the game demos they showed seemed as gimmicky as the Wii's motion controls (i.e., fun the first 30 minutes and then mind-numbingly repetitive thereafter in most games), and my living room doesn't have nearly enough space to pull off most of those moves.

Less than an hour till 1v100...woohoo! :)

You know, I was thinking the same exact thing. This could be a fantastic new way to navigate menus. And my first thought turned to Minority Report as well. Although I do think that there is plenty of gaming application. I would especially like to see a sword fighting game for the Natal that actually responds to motion instead of the horrible pre-determined sword motions that the Wii has had so far. I can't believe that a console that seems tailor made for it still doesn't have a good lightsaber fighting game.

I wonder if they'll make "props" for it?

Say for an FPS, you could have a small plastic gun. It wouldn't even have to have any electronics inside it (well, maybe for the trigger?) and really just be a way for the control to make more contextual sense for the user. Or if you're cheap, you could just use a cardboard tube or something ;)

Sony will counter Natal with a full-fledged holodeck.

And Kate Beckinsale will worry about what all the internet fanboy dorks will be doing with her likeness.

That's a bad idea, all the holo-characters will go crazy and murder everyone watching the press conference. It will be remembered as the Great Videogame "Journalist" Massacre of 2009.

4D for SONY oh wait they already tried that :p

Was it me or should they rename Sam Fisher to Jack Bauer, I mean dam why can't they make a 24 game like that. Also I see Ripley's scanner from ALIENS has found its way onto MW2, fricking sweet but please disable it online.

I love these nicknames IW comes up with for their protagonists. First Soap, now Roach. It's great.

I wonder if we're going to play more than one character in MW2. Maybe not, since TF 141 is supposed to be an international group. So there aren't different factions to represent anymore.

Oh, and Captain MacTavish looks to be a total badass. :techman:

Oh my god. MS's motion tech is fucking incredible, even if it does open the floodgates for casual bullshit. Molyneux's "wee boy simulator" (in a move hailed by vatican officials) is a very impressive tech demo, but still pretty damn creepy and not something I can see myself being interested in.

Monkey Island's return - FANTASTIC! I can't wait for the souped up HD remake with voice acting, I've been hankering for a voice-acted remake for YEARS. Brilliant news. And the news of new episodic adventures on WiiWare just sweetens the deal.

Very excited.

L4D 2, Crackdown 2, Epic's "metroid-esque" shooty thingy all look amazing, Brutal Legend and Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age and... man, I'm gonna have an aneurysm.

Can't wait to see how Ninty and Sony respond to MS! This is shaping up to be the best E3 in years.

L4D2 was a nice addition, I didn't expect that this soon. Chainsaws FTW.

Halo: Reach I knew was in development, nice to see they've got something now, ODST just looks like a Halo3 map pack.

Big news so far for me is MGS:R, mainly because A) the cyborg isn't Raiden, and B) that isn't Big Boss. Kojima says everything, but says nothing.

Of course, Assassins Creed 2 has to get a mention in my post, the reason I got a 360 was because of the first game so I'll definately be buying this when it's released. The trailer for ST: Old Republic looks awesome. And god, we've got 2 more days of E3 lol!

The MS and EA conferences both had some cool stuff. Shadow Complex Complex, I think it was called, looks like it might be pretty good. Halo ODST...meh, I'm not sure I care to see a Halo game without the Master Chief. It might be all right, but aside from the Halo setting, it looked like a generic marine shooter. Complete with annoying blather from squadmates that those games tend to have.

I wasn't expecting the Crackdown 2 trailer. Hopefully the sequel will have a little more content than the first game, though I did enjoy it quite a bit. The story was just over too quickly. The same folks are doing APB, which looked pretty good from what was shown at the EA conference. I'm curious to hear more about the whole "MMO" thing. Whether it's going to have a monthly fee, and if there's enough content to justify it. I do like the idea of being able to interact with a lot of players in a Crackdown like setting.

MS getting MGS was huge, though it's a Raiden game. He's the only character I've played that made me wish there was a suicide button.

The Natal looks impressive, but the games looked gimmicky as others have said. The demo from Molyneux showed more of its actual potential, but it was pretty creepy.

Ubisoft's conference was boring as shite aside from the AC2 trailer and Splinter Cell Convinction demo, which was pretty much the same as the one at the MS conference. EA's was much better, thanks to Bioware and Realtime Worlds. I can't wait to get my hands on Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2. I'll wait to see more before deciding on Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Yeah. "Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" pretty much sums it up. Maybe a little :wtf: at some of those DS titles. Ugh. Still an hour or so til Sony's conference.
