E3 2009 Discussion thread HOLY SHIT MONKEY ISLAND IS BACK

So wait, Karpyshyn is done with the Mass Effect trilogy?

And, I guess the MMO thing is best suited for another thread - but the very fact that you have servers and instances makes any sort of story-based MMO seem irrelevant. And if the point is that there are great individual experiences, why make an MMO in the first place? Oh right, because you can't milk 15 bucks a month in a single player RPG.
It's like LoTR Online, where when the game launched you had people lined up in front of Stryder waiting for the same exact quest. You're all special Hobbits because it'd be lame if you were just stuck in the Shire making pies.
I don't know. I think of it like this - what if they made a Mass Effect MMO? Mass Effect is wrapped around the fact that "you" are the first human Spectre in the universe. That's just something that can translate into an MMO. There's no way to make one player "special" without alienating the rest of the player base.
Would I play a Mass Effect universe MMO? Sure. As long as they finish with the Shepard storyline and let me do what I want to do with that, I'll be happy playing generic human super soldier #4452323. That's essentially how I feel about KoTOR.

Anyway, the Ubisoft conference blows. Cameron spent 20 minutes pimping Avatar... without showing the game... and they rolled out Pele to talk about some soccer game... without showing the game. This is why I don't watch this stuff live. :p

Ummm, yeah.

They could've just shown their fucking badass trailer and have been done with it.

But the stupid robes work too, I guess.

:p

HOLY SHIT! WANT!!!

Granted, it doesn't show any actual gameplay footage, so the game itself could be a glorified version of pong, for all we know (okay, that's probably unlikely).

But, yeah. That trailer is probably the most exciting and badass Star Wars content that I've seen since ... TESB.

I take back what I said about the Ubisoft conference... Splinter Cell 5 looks fucking awesome.

Hell yeah it does! I've been totally uninterested in Ubisoft's Clancy stuff lately ... but damn does this look different. And the whole gimmick about game info being projected onto in-game scenery was actually pretty awesome looking in its implementation.

Personally, I like menu-less games. I still prefer a HUD, but not having to pause just to find out your objectives is a nice touch.
I was also afraid the tagging thing would be too much of a win button... but it seems like you can use it to play how you like. It'd be nice to instantly take out lights the moment you enter a room and just hide in the shadows.

I still have my sealed copy of Dead Space.
My only problem is that I just want the information to be there when I need it without having to strain my eyes to look for a health bar on some dude's back or read small text in a small window in the game.

The Darkness with no mini-map annoyed me... King Kong with no ammo indicator annoyed me... and I'm just wondering if Dead Space is just as annoying.

I appreciate the design aesthetic, but it shouldn't be frustrating either.

Is it just wrong that I'm more interested in Project Natal as a shiny new, Minority Report way of controling Media Center than for its gaming potential? ALL of the game demos they showed seemed as gimmicky as the Wii's motion controls (i.e., fun the first 30 minutes and then mind-numbingly repetitive thereafter in most games), and my living room doesn't have nearly enough space to pull off most of those moves.

Less than an hour till 1v100...woohoo! :)

Am so glad I WOKE UP FOR 1AM to watch UbiBore's I mean Ubisoft's talking  took 35 mins to see anything related to gaming. Creed 2 looked good though. Watching EA playback now and STAR WARS probably had best game trailer ever  though its an MMO so slow gameplay sadly :alienblush:

Mass Effect 2 ooo I cannot wait though looks like Normandy is in trouble.

Yeah, I know. I have a crap load of games from last year that remain unplayed and I just went on a PS2 JRPG shopping spree.

When you buy something for $60, it collects dust on your shelf and then retail price drops to $30 before you've even opened it, it's called a sunk cost. :p
