If you are worried about getting stuck with KFX from Amazon and ending up with DRMed eBooks, buy from Kobo and get ePub which can be DRM free and ePub does convert well to KF8 for Kindles.

But if you own a Kindle (hardware), then you can download direct from Amazon and get KF8 with no DRM. It's KindlFfor PC/MAC that can give you KFX depending on your version and setup.

Twist of Faith gives you four stories for a dollar (counting Avatar as one), so that's especially great if you do not have any of them. Although I have the Gateways stories, I would definitely love the Avatar story in ebook form.
 
* I bought Hamlin full price because I was sure they were never going to discount it! That was one of the novels that got me hooked on TrekLit as a kid.

* I hope that the inclusion of The Soldiers of Fear means we'll also get The Final Fury at some point; I'd like to complete the Invasion! mini-series.

* I feel like Armageddon's Arrow has been on sale so many times.

* I wonder why they skipped Martyr - New Frontier 1-4 and 6, but no 5.

Agreed! And this isn't the first time they've put it on sale.

For those who already have the individual volumes, DRG III wrote a nifty introduction to Twist of Faith that's unique to the omnibus.
 
To what extent do you need to read all the Gateways books to understand Demons of Air and Darkness and the What Lay Beyond DS9 story? Do they all link up, or can they be read separately without impacting on understanding and enjoyment?

(edit to add: and the same question goes for Abyss too - can it be read alone without reading the other Section 31 books?)

If you are interested in the resolution of the Gateways story, the TNG part of What Lay Beyond has it. However, if you are just in it for the DS9 parts, you get what you need from those stories.

I just read Twist of Faith again a few months ago -- KRAD's novel stands alone. There's a scene at the beginning where there various players in this timeframe in Federation space meet that clearly crosses between the TNG, DS9 and NF books, but other than that DoA&D does an admirable job feeling complete. You don't even feel like you're missing the TNG stuff happening simultaneously.

As for Abyss, those Section 31 novels absolutely stand alone and this is the best of them.
 
Out of those first four Section 31 books, Shadow is the only one I haven't read yet. I thought the others were excellent. Rogue does a fantastic job of adding dimension to a previously "meh" part of First Contact, Abyss benefits from the touch of a former DS9 scriptwriter, and Cloak surprised the heck out of me - a tight, taut thriller that somehow incorporates S31 into Kirk's time without feeling like too much of a cheat.
