E-Book Pricing Alerts

Amazon UK's 12 Days of Kindle includes (for 99p):

Star Trek: Destiny: Book 1: Gods of NIght

More may follow as they add books to the sale.

I was looking around on Google Play, and I noticed that all of the Discovery novels, except Dead Endless, are $1.99. The Kindle store has Dead Endless and The Enterprise War still at full price, but the rest are $1.99. Barnes and Noble's Nook store has all but Dead Endless marked down.

Just came here to post the same thing. Had all but Fear Itself; glad I came across this.

That was unexpected to see the Discovery novels as January's specials, as all these books are fairly new. Cleaned up on them though, as before now I only had Desperate Hours.

The Enterprise War is also down to $1.99!

I wonder if this is the January special, or if they're planning to mark other titles down to the usual $0.99 discounted price. But I'm psyched to grab the DSC titles!

Picked up Drastic Measures and The Enterprise War. Not a bad deal.

Probably the January special, what with Picard premiering later in the month.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't do it for the Discover Season 3 release later this year.
If it were me I would have done the Stargazer books, or some other Picard centric TNG books.

I have no access to sales numbers, but I would guess that the Discovery line has perhaps underperformed to date. The high price point of the books makes impulse buying a lot harder, and the series itself is more than a bit divisive and on a premium service. The fact that the books are seeing discounts this early after initial publication adds to that impression.

More likely the exact opposite! Publishers have complex formulae for paying out royalties, and discounting a book generally means it's "earned out its advance" and they can reduce the price of the book because it's now considered to be in the black.

Hey all,

Interestingly Star Trek Discovery Desperate Hours was $.99 cents and part of the monthly deal back in January 2018 for those in the know.

Just wanting to wish everyone in the forums a Happy and Safe New Year for EVERYONE in the forums. Best wishes to all, and hopefully we get some more great discounts in 2020!!!

See you all next year.
Live long and oh you've prospered too much lol.

But you'll speculate anyway and use that as evidence to back up your existing beliefs?

I can only use the facts I have access to when speculating about something unusual. I have no agenda here, just sharing my view of how things look from one reader's perspective. I have nothing but respect and good wishes for the various Discovery tie-in authors, and if they have earned out their advance, that is great news.

I have no access to numbers, and don't care. Saw a couple of books that I was moderately interested in for a decent price. I don't think we can really suss out what it means, only Simon & Schuster and CBS know the reasons behind it.

It could simply be a "loss leader", taking a bit of a hit on the profitability of one product to lead people to another (All-Access).

This is just a temporary, promotional markdown, not a permanent thing, so I don't know if you can really use it to judge the popularity of the books.

Not a Star Trek book, but Kate Mulgrew's memoir How to Forget is currently on sale for C$2.99 on the Canadian Kobo store and Amazon.ca.
