DW:Worlds in Time

Okay, I've started seeing pop-ups for this new DW online game here on the board. Anyone tried it out yet? What is it exactly?

I admit I'm a bit curious. I like the art style but I've always been a bit wary of signing up for anything like this until I know what its all about.

It looks like they have a couple of "core" missions, as well as a few side missions. The one I'm doing now is an Auton campaign.

You can "talk" with other characters and join up in "guilds" but you are also given your own assistants (computer operated) to get through the missions.

The missions can be looked at as repetitious, since you are usually hacking into a computer, battling, lockpicking.

The game is a point and click, no world exploration. You just follow the pre-destined storyline to basically get more of the story (i.e. current mission) as it unfolds.

It may not be for everyone, depending on their gaming preferences, but as a Who fan, I like it...especially as a little diversion.

I tried it when it first appeared in the UK a few months ago. Got bored shitless with it after literally ten minutes...

It's a legitimate game - I understand what you mean by wanting to be a bit cautious (no names but there are more than a few scams out there masquerading as online games*), but this is something fully licensed by BBC Worldwide and I believe Matt Smith has even recorded dialogue for it.

As to whether the game is any good or not, I have no idea. I'm not a fan of MMORGs or whatever they're called so it hasn't been a high priority for me to play (plus I wasn't 100% sure if it could be played outside the UK or on a Mac after the Adventure Games fiasco so I sort of just instinctively steered clear).

*As I typed that a World of Warcraft banner ad appeared. No, I'm not talking about WoW here! ;)

It's good for quick bursts of Whoness.... but nothing absorbing or in depth. Definitely for the kiddie market...
