Recorded nowadays, thought Comcast did something to their DVR system which is irritating to the point of dumping the service.

Until the last few months, when you wanted to seek through a program, there was no delay. Where you paused the program, regardless of whether or not it was on 4x or slo-mo is where the DVR paused. Sometimes a frame before, but no big deal.

Now, there's a 15 second gap between where you want to pause or play something and where it decides it should play. It's the most random system I've ever seen. It's not even as if it was designed to force you to watch some of the commercials, it just randomly picks a time index either 15 seconds before or 15 seconds after the time you select...the add is 'broadcasted' by the DVR it self.

Whose fucking idea was this?

I have Comcast as well, but have not experienced anything like that.

My friend works at COX CABLE. And the says they are going to have DVRS soon, and everyone will have to get one, that actually show adds DURING the fastfowarding via a running add on the bottom of the screen..and that they will not offer the top speed of Fastfowarding anymore...

50/50. If i'm around, i watch it. Sometimes I'll start a little late, or there are 2 shows on that I watch at the same time, so DVR one and watch it during the commercials of the other.

Sports have got to be live, though...

I'm watching very little TV these days. I had been doing a 50/50 mix of live viewing and DVR recording. Now I'm barely using my DVR. I tend to watch "Dollhouse" on Hulu when it's convenient for me. I'll probably watch "Lost" live. Chances are, I'll get rid of the DVR since I'm not putting it to much use these days.

We love DVR. Almost everything is recorded to watch later. We will watch football live, but we've been known to record it and start the recording around halftime.

That. Sucks. :cardie:

We have Dish, three rooms of HD, one of which has DVR. DVR'd TV is in the living room, which is where my grandpa (yeah, I live at home with my over 70 year old grandparents) does most of his TV watching. He, being mildly technophobic in that "hates tech" kind of way, never uses it. I rarely can, since crime dramas/hunting shows/documentaries are on when my MythBusters, Dirty Jobs, Heroes, Deadliest Catch, and FlashForward are on. Thusly, I wind up watching my stuff live, which I would do anyway since I have the time and because it minimizes risk of unwanted spoiler exposure.

The only show my grandpa and I watch is Lost, which I started watching in earnest in season 4. Interestingly he hates it now since it's complexity increased and the premise changed DRASTICALLY from his first impressions

If I do miss one of my big shows (bolded in this post), there is always Hulu.

When I had a DVR ..., I would watch shows live, but pause them for the first ten-twelve minutes so I could fast-forward through all the commercials...
That's a good idea! I'll have to try that one of these days when my grandpa's not using the DVR'd TV.

Download everything off of usenet. Sometimes watch stuff on Hulu... Daily Show, stuff like that... I watch football live, but that's about it. The concept of watching a television show filmed months ago as 'live' doesn't compute. If it's on usenet before it airs legally, I'll watch it then, if not, I'll watch it afterwards. Aside from the occasional shithead posting spoilers, it's not really a big deal.

I'm guessing somebody who was only interested in taking your money.

New stuff is exclusively Hulu, with the exception of Medium, which I have to use CBS.com for. C'mon, CBS, join the alien invasion and help Hulu turn our brains to mush!

Seriously, I don't have cable or even an antenna for TV. Just an old laptop hooked to the TV to stream Hulu, and my DVD collection. :)

LOST is one of the few shows I can't watch live because I get too annoyed when the episode ends. That show is strictly DVD marathon material.
