Though playing the down the role and ability of the Bene Gesserit would be consistent.
In the original novel there's a scene where Jessica confronts Hawat and says he's just glimpsed the iron first inside the velvet glove of the Bene Gesserit (and lived).
I always wondered if and how much the Great Houses and the Emperor too realized they were being played and gently nudged into one direction or the other.
The BG have time, their plans unfold over decades and centuries, so a small whisper here and 2 generations later it's war.

Or maybe they changed up fashion a few times before coming back to the dollies. Like how certain retro fashions are becoming popular again in the real world.
Over the course of 10,000+ years? I don't think we have any religions that old.
It's lazy production values, transposing from the movie, while not taking the in-universe continuity into account. I don't recall just when KJA/BH decided to create the Mentats, but if there are any in this show, will they carry those cute little parasols that Thufir had?
I've noticed some people wearing 1970s outfits to the local mall. That's reviving a 50-year-old fashion trend, and doesn't look at all strange to me, given that I wore that stuff (the 1970s were my school years).
I have not, however, seen anyone walking around the mall dressed in outfits from 8000 BCE.
One universe's fashion trends aren't the same as another's. 
Yeah, that was what I was thinking. A lot of religions' traditions go all the way back to the beginning.
Yeah, but this is a very different kind of society from ours, and their 10,000 years ago seems to be closer to a few centuries or decades ago for us. And there are plenty of modern traditions that go back that far.
My opinion stands. It's lazy writing and character development.

Can’t be a good sign if I’m the first one to comment on the premiere. I found it perfectly watchable — it didn’t kick my head off, but it’s certainly Dune. Though I’m amused that

For now, I'm going to reserve judgment.
I'm very skeptical that this will pan out to be something I'll like, but I'm not throwing in the towel yet. Certainly there were some worthwhile elements.
