Dune [Part 3] Messiah 2027 (28, 29, 30...)

Will the name of the movie take away anything of its story?

According to Herbert he also felt he needed to write Messiah to remind people ( again) what the first book was about, i.e. one of its central themes because some people still saw Paul as a hero much like the movie audience does now judging by the reaction videos i saw ( only a tiny minority actually went "Wait a minute - Paul becoming this leader of fanatics can't be good").

So in a way, at least for me, the third book completes Paul's story and if it weren't too big of a single book it might as well have been incorporated into Dune proper as a single Paul Muad'dib book.

In the end it's an extremely minor thing to even discuss this to be honest.
its not if it will take, its the concern that changing the name is a step in the direction to change the story as well. its more about changing the story too much then the name itself

I think now you're reaching a bit too far. Story elements have already been changed in the first 2 movies (Chani's storyline for example), some have been completely cut ( the popular banquet scene, Jamis' funeral, the whole Other Memory thing has been severely downplayed etc).

I know of no book adaptation that retells the story 1:1 with each scene exactly replicated from the book ( and if so people will still complain that some tiny detail of a costume is not right or that the actress/actor doesn't look exactly as decribed in the book), they all take deviate to a greater or lesser degree for various reasons but in the end if the adaptation is faithful, as Villeneuves' movies are in my opinion, it doesn't matter.

Am i maybe a bit sad that a favorite scene of mine didn't make the final cut? Yes, absolutely ( i mentioned Jamis' funeral scene, which is a favorite scene of mine from the book) but i also understand why it had to go. So being worried because the movie title is not exactly according to the book is not something that should be of any concern.

I also have to wonder if they might be worried about religious people getting upset if they have Messiah in the title, especially if Paul being their Messiah is portrayed as a negative. Even when Sci-Fi Channel did their adaptation of Messiah and Children of Dune, they decided to call the whole Children of Dune, so that's twice now we've gotten adaptations of Dune Messiah that hasn't used that title.

Regarding making the people in the HLP "executive producers"... since Villeneuve is already making huge changes (movie Chani isn't much like book Chani and her father had a sex change, not to mention 4 years was squashed down into a few months), if there is any hint that Margot Fenring gives birth to a daughter named Marie, that's proof that KJA/BH's nuDune crap is being shoehorned into it.

 yourself.

There was absolutely no valid excuse whatsoever for genderswapping Liet-Kynes.

There was also no need for the role to be male. Paul, yes. Gurney, Stilgar, Duncan. Yes.
Other parts NEEDED to be female. Liet. Meh. So I was happy we got more diversity.

Oh dear, Trump supporters just threw up for no reason.

Anyway, It happened. No need to start that useless debate again.

Actually, there was. The point was made in the novel that Paul and Chani had both lost their father to the Harkonnens. Chani literally introduced herself: "I am Chani, daughter of Liet." Paul had met Liet-Kynes. Not a woman.

And I very strongly suggest that you do NOT bring up Trump here. Or diversity. Or I may begin to think that you're accusing me of being an American racist, when I am neither American nor racist.

Last I looked, you're not a moderator of this forum, so you're not the arbiter of what I may or may not bring up in my posts.

Yeah, it's the movie not the book. Changes can be made.

In the conversation between the both of them, the gender is not important.
I also did NOT suggest you of being anything. It was a general comment because I know some people on this forum think a certain way. Look in on yourself if that struck a nerve.
I am indeed not a mod, nor an arbiter. But I'll call bullshit when I see it.
Anyway, being Dutch and all it's nearing bedtime here and I have an early start tomorrow. So long dude, have a good one!!

1. I'm the person you replied to, so it's reasonable to think that you're making an accusation.

2. I don't have to "look in on myself." I just get fed up with others' bullshit. Race has NOTHING to do with my objections to Liet-Kynes being female. I don't appreciate either your "suggestion" or your attempt now to tap dance around that and pretend you weren't making an unjustified accusation.

3. I'm not a "dude". Reading comprehension of my usertitle is your friend.

Making Liet Chani's mother instead of her father changes absolutely nothing about the story, she's still her parent and that's really all that matters. Adaptations always make these kind of changes, and if that is this triggering for you, I would seriously suggest not watching any adaptations of any books or comics that you are a fan of.
