Dune 2018 (19,20,21...)

I feel we've discussed these various cuts (theatrical, TV Judas Booth/Alan Smithee, fanedits) before. What might be interesting is what we think Villeneuve and writers may have included/excluded based on these versions?

There's been discussions of about the smithee cut (which I have on DVD - a special release that came in a metal case in the mid-2000s) but I can't recall any discussion on a fan edit of Dune which goes beyond the DE (not sure many people here were aware of it).

Not as a thread but definitely been discussed...:techman:
There's a fanedit a very similar to what you're saying named Dune: The Third Stage Edition. It defers to the theatrical cut for all the material actually in theatrical cut (IE Irulan narrator rather than unknown male, no randomly reused material, etc.), but adds in the genuine deleted scenes from the Alan Smithee edition and even ones elsewhere (very poor quality in places, despite being cleaned up the best it could); the faneditor even goes by scene to scene and individually recolors the Freman's eyes to be blue in the deleted scenes. Total is about 3 hours. Well worth watching.

I only remember this as Dune is the only SF&F discussion/thread I'm really interested in. :) And I'm always interested in new views and opinions on the books and film(s)/TV series

Bit of a tangent but how many Dune references can people think of of that have been made in other tv shows. Double points if it doesn't involve a reference to the "spice must flow" or the worms.

Last night's episode of The Simpson's manage the later night when Comicbook Guy says Homer killed his "Arrakeen spice buzz".

The Simpsons has one of my all time fav Dune references, when Apu cooks them dinner and the food is so spicy Lisa can see the future

I'm pretty sure if it was meant to tie into the movie, they would have mentioned it in the press release.

Empire is doing an exclusive thing this week, released a pic of Paul and Gurney on the ornithopter during the sandworms attack on the harvesters near the beginning today.

The big exclusive isn't out yet, so no link. This was more a heads up. It's probably like variety where they'll release a few pics leading up to it and then the big drop. For the new pic just go on any social media, it's everywhere.

Hmm, I might find those tempting if I have more disposable income by the time they start coming out.
If someone does Funko Pops, those will be a definite buy for me.
Of course this is all dependent of on whether or not I actually like the movie.
