It'll be fine. The characters can join in with a dance as well so the music will be canon.

Although I'm no fan of the montage endings, they're so common these days I've learned it better to just roll with it. I am irked when they opt to go with a no-name indie band's cover of a well known song though. In those cases, they should just go ahead and pay the added royalties to the original artist, or at least the artist who performed the popular version of the song.

Yeah, I vaguely recall UPN wanting a musical number in each Enterprise episode featuring different bands, which Berman and Braga fought vehemently against.

Just have a stage in ten forward, bring in flavours of the week and pretend they're holographic recordings from the early 21st century which is retro cool again.
I would like to hear some music that is contemporary to the era in which the show is set. It seems to me that human culture has become stagnant because most of the music we hear in trek is "archaic musical forms" (Data in Nemisis) or "classical music" (Bones in STB) mostly from the twentieth century. We never even got to hear "The Laughing Vulcan and His Dog" because Picard wanted to sing "Frère Jacques" instead!

Hearing rumors from reliable sources that some casting/characters should be announced soon. Given the time of year, Fuller's love of Halloween, and the registry of the ship being 10/31 - Halloween - I'd put good money on an announcement there. Also would be last chance to keep the "Octoboer" promise made before the delay. I imagine when the promise was made the thought was early October.
