Do you think it would have helped DS9, especially with its evolving storyline, to have a evolving voice over in the opening credits as Babylon-5 did? I think it would have helped especially for 'quasi' viewers who tuned it in back then, and who may be finding it now when it is repeated on TV...

I think they should go back and have Avery Brooks to some kind of opening for each of the first episodes of a season. It could be done at the start where all we see is that flying comet and end as the real part of the main title music starts..

What do you think???

I think DS9 and B5 are compared often enough without the additional help...

Any viewer who's lost and has internet access can get their questions addressed, in any case.

Voice overs for DS9 aren't really necessary. It wouldn't add much at all.

Actually, I disagree. I think they would add alot to the viewing of the show. There are lots of people out there who might try to watch a given episode of DS9 and not know what the heck is going on, especially in the Dominion Arc.

Babylon-5 did this at the start of each season and I think DS9 should have, and should now, add some kind of voice over to give the viewer some idea as to where the story is...

In about a year that movie is going to come out. It may be a big hit and may inspire many people who have never watched DS9 to give it a chance. Whats going to happen if they tune in on some episode in season 6? they will be lost...

Some generic opening at the start of the during the main titles might help. Maybe not you and I, but anything that can make the show easier to watch for new fans is something that should be done. IMO.

How 'bout this:

"It was the dawn of the Third Age of Mankind, ten years after the..." Oh, that's taken. (Just kidding, guys, you can put down the phaser... )

The Gamma Quadrant, the finaler final frontier
This is the sitting in place of the space station Deep Space Nine
Its however long it takes mission
To be a layover spot for the people exploring strange, new worlds
To be sought out by new life, and new civilizations
To boldly wait nearby to where nobody has gone before!

Nah, we don't need a narration.

I agree "we" dont...but again, I am not talking about "us". I am talking about potential fan like a person I met at work. We were talking about TREK and DS9 came up. He said he didn't like it because he had no idea what was going on...and then it struck me, that is the usual problem with new fans trying to get into DS9..it's a fricking soap opera. Who could blame them for being intimidated. I think, despite how the voting is going (against this idea) it is still a good idea. I didn't expect it to go over well with 'our' crowd, but again...Trek may have a new influx of fans next year. And they may want to explore other treks that came before. And DS9 ability to catch them is severly hindered, as Ira Behr even said they would be, if they came in on the middle of the story....

So..I guess I will beat my little drum (ahem..this is a family board, so don't go there) and make as loud as of noise as I can.

I vote yes there should be voice overs on the opening credits simply because they are extremely blande as-is, and voice overs would make them exciting and entertaining instead of being something to perpetually fast forward past.
