What else changed from the pre-production and start of the show to the end?

I'm glad they expanded the universe with a large recurring cast. I wonder what that would have been like with different regulars at the start. ...What the initial relationships would have been like, what they would have been with the recurring characters, if there would have been different recurring characters or worlds or arcs if the initial elements of the show were different.

as much as I liked the Ro Laren character, I don't think I'd have stuck with DS9 without Kira.

Some of the early concepts involved the station being totally alien, and the mystery of who built it and why being an arc.

Odo at one point was a component of this mysterious alien station itself, a premise that they recycled later with Voyager's "Doctor".

If I remember right, anyway.
